I would love to do it. I am Irish and Italian and to see who my ancestors were would be awesome. Has anyone done it? How much time did you spend and how much did it cost?

Re: Has Anyone Traced Their Ancestry, and How Far Back Did You Go?
Im from Scotland & traced my mothers side and found the bloodline includes people in Australia,Canada & New Zealand as expected, but the big surprise was the relationship to understated U.S President James K Polk & I am also once removed from Scottish reformist John Knox.I have that side back to 1066 & the Battle of Hastings.Amazing also was the fact a lot of Irish have Scottish roots Americans stop at the romantic Irish roots when really a lot of them are really Scottish who moved to Ireland, then moved on to the US.That one cost me nothing but a lot of time on the net ,& a lot of the work can already be done by someone else if you get lucky.I had an easy start as my great great uncle ebeneezer was easy to find & I took it from there

Whether you believe it or not, I have the handwritten papers my grandfather created traced back to Jesus. Yea I know, but still, he did it. I also had a relative that had a bastard baby of a King of England. Lol.

Thank you for responding. I am excited to start looking through my family. I actually found out that my great-grandmother is from Nova Scotia. Should be interesting. I guess I could go to Ancestry.com, see how that goes.

I'm trying to get my grandma to hand over the family records.
She told me that the women in the family lied so much about who they were married to that she thinks it doesn't matter.
But it's only my great grandma who lied and a couple of her sisters.

Re: Has Anyone Traced Their Ancestry, and How Far Back Did You Go?
On my father's side I belong to a Scottish clan. Their history goes back to Arthurian Britain.
On my mother's side, they were Jews on the border between the Russian and Turkish Empires so they could be Sepahrdi or Ashkenazi, or both.
My grandfather went by the Sephardi tradition, and so do I.

The father's ancestors came to Canada in 1840, and my mother's parents came in 1905.
But the Gunn clan, with the Sinclairs, and the Zeno family of Venice, first visited North America in 1396.

Re: Has Anyone Traced Their Ancestry, and How Far Back Did You Go?
If you can trace back to middle age British Royalty, then you'll be able to trace your ancestral roots back to the Israelites of old. Same with ancient European royalty as well as Irish/Scottish/Welsh.

These so-called modern people who call themselves "the chosen" are imposters, attempting to erase the heritage and to steal the inheritance of the true Israelites. And as such, their so-called state in the middle east is a fraud.

Gen 21:12 And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called. (KJV)

From Strong's Concordance:

Isaac

H3327
יצחק
yitschâq
yits-khawk'
From H6711; laughter (that is, mockery); Jitschak (or Isaac), son of Abraham: - Isaac. Compare H3446.

In the above Hebrew pronunciation, you can see that the 2nd syllable is accented. In modern English it's the 1st syllable that is accented. Also the consanant sound at the beginning of the word was dropped in the eventual translation from Hebrew to English. From yitschaq to Issac.

Consider this: Sons of Issac. Issac's sons. Issacssons. Drop the "I". Ssacssons. Saxons. These (Saxons and their Caucasian kin) are the TRUE descendents of the ancient Hebrews/Israelites, the TRUE children of the promise.

It is pretty incredible. It's not just names either, but complete with birth and death dates, city, town, county, and country of birth. Both my grandparents were born in England, and their ancestors kept immaculate records.

Re: Has Anyone Traced Their Ancestry, and How Far Back Did You Go?
You can get lucky and find that someone has done a great deal of work that relates to your particular line. I had this kind of luck with a bunch of correspondence between my great uncle and a distant relative who was researching the family, I was able to use that information to hook up with a guy on the internet who had done a huge amount of research and we were both able to fill in each other's blanks.

That's my father's line, goes tail male back to Cape Cod 1650, my particular line were Loyalists in the Revolution and went to Canada where they got Land Grants from the Crown, United Empire Loyalists, U.E.L., Canadians will know what that is. My great grandfather who was from St. George Ontario went to veterinary college in Guelph and then went to Iowa to practice.

He married a woman whose father was German, came over about 1850 I think, and worked his way as a butcher to being a self made, self educated man who bred Standardbred racehorses and fine cattle there in Iowa. you can bet he was thrilled when his daughter married a veterinarian!

I know a little bit about those Germans but that would be a good thing to try to research more. They were from Bavaria.

My father's mother was Norwegian from Wisconsin. This is the branch of the family I know the least about, with the most common names, a lot of Gundersons and Andersons in Wisconsin at that time! :-) I ought to get what I can about them from my dad while he's still around.

On my mother's side, her father's line goes tail male to a guy who was Scottish and fled Scotland after the events of the 1740s, went to North Carolina. Someone did a lot of research on that family and I have a lot of information about it.

Her mother had ancestors on the Mayflower and all her people were New Englanders, mostly around Connecticut. A lot of work has been done on that background too.

I certainly have a lot to go on if I ever want to look into it more. I did do more with it when I first got online, it can be very engrossing. The Rootsweb message boards are probably the best source of information that I found.

It would be fun to find out about the Germans that are still in Germany 150 years later. And I don't know if it would ever be possible to trace anyone named Gunderson or Anderson back to Norway over 100 years ago, but I suppose it's been done.

On my mother's mother's side, I could be Daughters of the American Revolution, Mayflower Descendents Society, a whole bunch of other organizations I would be eligible for membership in.

This is a great way to start. I went from there to the local libraries to get more complete data (a lot of undocumented junk online). You can send away for naturalization records and stuff pretty easily (and not too costly). Take what you find at ancestry.com with a grain of salt (unless you pay to view the original documents) - and back up the research yourself. Sometimes these mistakes have been copied and pasted so many times and people take them as gospel - and they ARE NOT the facts!

Part of my family came from Poland to the US in the early 1900's - and as you can imagine the world at that time...lots of name changes going on to sound like something else. I have hit so many brick walls!!!

Best of luck with your search. It's nice to know what your family had to go through to ensure your place in this world.

Any of that has Scottish ancestry should enjoy this:

The Declaration of Arbroath: the year 1320, a letter/declaration to the pope

“To the most Holy Father and Lord in Christ, the Lord John, by divine providence Supreme Pontiff of the Holy Roman and Universal Church, his humble and devout sons Duncan, Earl of Fife, Thomas Randolph, Earl of Moray, Lord of Man and of Annandale, Patrick Dunbar, Earl of March, Malise, Earl of Strathearn, Malcolm, Earl of Lennox, William, Earl of Ross, Magnus, Earl of Caithness and Orkney, and William, Earl of Sutherland; Walter, Steward of Scotland, William Soules, Butler of Scotland, James, Lord of Douglas, Roger Mowbray, David, Lord of Brechin, David Graham, Ingram Umfraville, John Menteith, guardian of the earldom of Menteith, Alexander Fraser, Gilbert Hay, Constable of Scotland, Robert Keith, Marischal of Scotland, Henry St Clair, John Graham, David Lindsay, William Oliphant, Patrick Graham, John Fenton, William Abernethy, David Wemyss, William Mushet, Fergus of Ardrossan, Eustace Maxwell, William Ramsay, William Mowat, Alan Murray, Donald Campbell, John Cameron, Reginald Cheyne, Alexander Seton, Andrew Leslie, and Alexander Straiton, and the

other barons and freeholders and the whole community of the realm of Scotland send all manner of filial reverence, with devout kisses of his blessed feet.

Most Holy Father and Lord, we know and from the chronicles and books of the ancients we find that among other famous nations our own, the Scots, has been graced with widespread renown. They journeyed from Greater Scythia by way of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Pillars of Hercules, and dwelt for a long course of time in Spain among the most savage tribes, but nowhere could they be subdued by any race, however barbarous. Thence they came, twelve hundred years after the people of Israel crossed the Red Sea, to their home in the west where they still live today. The Britons they first drove out, the Picts they utterly destroyed, and, even though very often assailed by the Norwegians, the Danes and the English, they took possession of that home with many victories and untold efforts; and, as the historians of old time bear witness, they have held it free of all bondage ever since. In their kingdom there have reigned one hundred and thirteen kings of their own royal stock, the line unbroken a single foreigner. The high qualities and deserts of these people, were they not otherwise manifest, gain glory enough from this: that the King of kings and Lord of lords, our Lord Jesus Christ, after His Passion and Resurrection, called them, even though settled in the uttermost part of the earth, almost the first to His most holy faith. Nor would He have them confirmed in that faith by merely anyone but by the first of His Apostles — by calling, though second or third in rank — the most gentle Saint Andrew, the Blessed Peter's brother, and desired him to keep them under his protection as their patron forever.

Have never personally done any research regarding my own ancestors.

Used to joke about how 'CAUTION' was always well advised in such things.

Here's why :

IF any one traces his or her ancestry back far enough, . . . THEN sooner or later, . . . you're likely to discover SOMETHING -- or SOMEONE -- that you DON'T LIKE.lol

Re: Has Anyone Traced Their Ancestry, and How Far Back Did You Go?
Traced mine back to the Merovingians and found out I'm from the bloodline of King Clovis I and his wife Saint Clotilde. Latter on we ended up fighting with William The Conqueror in the Battle of Hastings in 1066. My family names is recorded in the Bayeux Tapestry. The relation there was Williams top General. For our services we recieved control over South Eastern Ireland. Before this we had originally settled in Wales because of the Romans and latter on had to flee the Saxons and made our home in Brittany or what was left of it in France. From there we came with William to retake back what the Saxons had stolen. My Ancestors became Barons of WaterFord. They built many Castles and Forts that still exist today. The Family Coat of Arms Still hangs in one. The Others where bought off or lay in partial rubble. Our Coat of Arms has a connection to the Knights Templar. As they used the same Banner as the Shield on Our Coat of Arms. Only one family has this banner or ever used it besides the Knights Templar. Turns out after much research I found many Connections. Logic would make me think that if you where using this Shield and Banner in Knights Templar time and you where not a Templar they would have cut your balls off. So it turns out we where deeply connected with the Knights Templar all the way back to it's founding. If I told you my last name you would understand. If you knew anything Historically correct about the Templars. No Di vinci code bullshit. Basically my whole family at that time where Templars.

Our Family Motto is "Through the Cross to the Crown".
Only the Knights Templar used that.
You would get a serious ass kicking if you used even this and where not a Templar. There are Famous Writers that even record the connection to our Family and the Templars.

You would believe me if I showed you my Coat of Arms. But I'm not going to do that because this is too public of a web site. I've posted here before about it. I have a huge web site with all the historical documents to back it up. Took me 2 years of research. I was very surprised to say the least. Before this we knew maybe the last 200 years.

I have come to the conclusion we where originally Christians that fleed the Roman Empire and settled in Wales around the time of King Arthur. We where in that area at the time and I have traced our family roots to one of the Kings that came after King Authur. There is a grey area as to whether or not King Arthur was even real. But I believe he was in fact a Merovingian King and it was covered up by the Romans and latter the Saxons. So that his people would loose the claim to the land. I have researched this alot. This is where my people originally came from Wales or what was know as Brittany or the Western Empire of the Merovingians at that time. So this would be around 5th century. This is as far back as I could go. Surprisingly!

I've traced my linage back 6,000 years.
I was originally a child born of the Nephilim.
