I saw on a foresnics show on discovery a few yrs back how they can retrieve a serial # thats been filed off
they clean it up w/ a type of acid, put another compound on that raises the #'s and then are able to view them through another process

they said what makes this possible is that even after filing the impressions of the # are still there in the stamped metal

maybe they were filed because they are different then the ones purchased, as ballistics has yet to be done and they are only going by the receipt

also, how did he disfigure his face so much w/ just one 9mm bullet ?

now if you put the gun under your chin, if it poited to forward towards your face, you risk, not dying, just disfigurement
you would think his concern would be to make sure he was dead and center the gun more to make sure it hit his brain, not just take off his face

An entry wound will appear as a tiny hole, it's the exit wound that is large. It does depend on the angle it was fired at. I've heard of suicides where say a large portion left of the nose including eye socket, cheek, part of the forehead were blown out so the person is missing half a face pretty much. I wonder if they'll publically release photos of this guy so we can confirm exactly how disfigured they claim he was.

Very likely he didn't even plan the 2 murders, just his girlfriend, when the right time came. Of course, the right time didn't come, he snapped early when the supervisor interfered. His plans were ruined, he was never going to get away with it now. He had nothing to lose.

You would only scratch off the serial numbers if you intended to escape and did not want the gun traced so that the police could identify you. The fact that Cho did this surely indicates that he never intended to kill himself. Either he changed his mind or something is not right here.

Hmmmm, if he had prepared the package ahead of time I don't think it would have took him 1hr 45mins to mail it before continuing his spree... Do you recall the type of acid used, and what kind of metal the bullet was made with? I'm drawing a comic book that includes forensics that I want to be as close to realistic as possible.
