Can a heating pad be used safely on the rib cage and/or stomach area?

take this to WEBMD.com.

This is a conspiracy site. Unless W, or Chiney, or the VT shooter had something to do with it....

A heating pad would be fine. In some cases I've seen/heard of people alternating heat/ice. If it causes swelling, swap or stop. Myself, I've always used Ice on broken bones. That however will cause a lil pain too from the coldness.

Re: Friend with six broken ribs and in pain....
Try getting some Arnica Montana homeopathic and using it every single time his pain hits and doing it every fifteen minutes till pain stops. Then you stop. You can start up again if pain comes back. Also, Herb Pharms has a Willow/meadowsweet combination that works just like asparin or more but won't make you bleed out or cause liver problems.

Castor oil packs then a heating pad works beautifully.

Try holding your left hand under him and your right hand on top and just leave it there for ten or fifteen minutes. Get comfortable yourself. That should help ease his pain.

I second this opinion :o)
Homeopathic arnica gel is also good for topical application.

Wow! Somebody else who knows about castor oil packs.

I agree with this. Use heat pad in conjunction with a castor pack.

This is *NOT* a joke. Get a cat or two, and have them lay down right next to him. Keep them purring. Scientists recently "discovered" that a purring cat will speed broken bone growth tremendously. I say "discovered" in quotes, because family doctors of old knew about this 200 years ago.

no,pain is love ... ask for your doctor a recipe of ketorolac... dolac here in mexico..is an excellent painkiller,or just use any NSAID´s do you have in home I mean ibuprofen, diclofenac, meloxicam, etc.
Do not, I repeat ,do not put a bandage circular to the thorax because it cause more breath difficulty.
mmm IF YOU WANT SOME KIND OF HERBOLLARY RECIPE use any kind of cactus like sabilla or maguey(search thet ranslation) and fried slighty them and later put (when theay still warm) over the affected area...make taht your pal continue to do respiratory exercises like blowing a glass of water and if he can, inflate ballons(soft ones)
