Ok, apparently what they say they think happened, according to witnesses the guy went into the conference room pointed the gun at a specific person and told everyone else to get out, and so they think that there may still be a hostage.

Theteck, My opinion is the same.

If security is anything like what it is at other NASA facilities, there's no difficulty for someone badged to work there getting a gun inside. All the guard does is check your badge when you drive through the gate - if you had a gun in your briefcase or under your seat, he'd never know. Some places conduct random searches, but even then there's a good chance of getting through.
