Re: How Come Deadly Tornadoes Only Hit Small Towns
A tornado hit Des Moines, IA about a decade ago.

Our town (about 15,000) has been hit twice in the almost 13 years we've been here. We've had minor damage but nothing significant.

It's AC 232546 that lives in Texas--I was just responding to the comment, Claycat.

Re: How Come Deadly Tornadoes Only Hit Small Towns
Grand Island, Ne (pop. about 32,000 in 1980) nine funnels on the ground, a definite F5, wiped out at least a 1/3 of the town, leveled those parts. Okay so GI, NE is a "small town".. or is it a large village, or a small city.. hmmm.. sorta like Pluto --- is it a planet or not?

Omaha, NE, Lincoln, NE, both have been hit in the pass. Many cities (again is a "city" of 500,000 a City or a Town?) have been hit. Of course the outskirts (trailer parks) get hit, they are on the way into the city. Funnels have formed right over the downtown area of cities, and have dropped down to the ground right over downtown. The heat island idea is not a very likely answer.. the electrostatic and underground water and underground electric currents interfacing with the Ionospheric currents maybe the big determiner just where and when they hit.
