What does the left hand path mean?
Ran across this term the other day. Is it connected to the hidden hand? Is it part of the symbol we see of the hand with the eye in it? Anyone?

Re: What does the left hand path mean?
Is this true?

"The term 'Left-Hand Path' has become an umbrella term of self-designation used by certain contemporary ritual magicians and is usually taken to incorporate practitioners of Thelemic magick (beginning with Aleister Crowley), Tantrik magick, and Chaos Magick (inspired by both Crowley and the magickal techniques devised by the occult artist Austin O. Spare, 1886-1956). The notion of the Left-Hand Path is derived from the Tantric term vama-marga ('left-path'), i.e., the Left-Hand Path in Tantrism. [...] Its usage represents a deliberate attempt by Left-Hand Path magicians to transcend the outmoded and value-laden dichotomy of 'black' versus 'white' magic [...] because it is held to reflect the 'moronic oversimplicity of the Judeo-Xtian distinction between good and evil'"
"Pagan Pathways" essay on "Left-Hand Path Ritual Magick" by Richard Sutcliffe1

Re: What does the left hand path mean?
The terms Left-Hand Path and Right-Hand Path refer to a postulated dichotomy between two distinct types of religion. The exact meaning of the terms has varied over time. The most modern usage regards religions which focus upon the elevation of the spiritual over the carnal, faith-based worship of one or more deities and the observance of strict moral codes which are supposed to bring humans closer to the Divine as belonging to the Right-Hand Path, while religions which value the advancement and preservation of the self, glorification of the earthly, and personal power over spiritualized goals are considered to belong to the Left-Hand Path. This usage of the terms is invoked almost exclusively by proponents of the Left-Hand Path; opponents (almost always of religions described as "Right-Hand Path") either argue that this is a means of dividing religions (a mislabeled or false dichotomy), or that much of what is called "left hand" is in actuality not legitimate religion.

Re: What does the left hand path mean?
I wonder have we taken a buddhist concept and maken it western. In fact falling from it's origianl intent.

Now. . . here is the important Truth. There is no conflict between these paths if they are True; they are yin/yang and exist together and this embodies real stratification in the sense of people naturally working at their own abilities. I.e., what you are good at, naturally comes easy! Because of this, there is always RHP in LHP, and always LHP in RHP. There is the "Being" of the receptive LHP and then the "Becoming" which is the active RHP. There is the Knowledge of the LHP that leads to the deeds of the RHP. Everything is Yin and Yang. Passive Idea; Active Deed. Like Sat-Being and Tan-Becoming.

To people at inner peace with themselves, the Dark Paths are Peaceful. They are beautiful, soft, and solitary. . . This does not mean they are hermits; not at all. There is nothing busy or hectic about the Dark Paths. They are totally inner. When a person has an inner core which has been compromised by cultural Christianity or something else, the best they can come up with is a self-overcoming where they try, oftentimes in vain, to "fix" their broken selves. In neurological terms, they lack the "organic I." These people cannot know. The best thing for them is to join one of the pacifistic liberal Christian Churches they rage against so at least they have rules that prevent them from hurting themselves or others. What they don't understand is that they cannot know, because they are not able to grasp the knowledge that is at the Core of their Being. They often sublimate by "getting interested in" rebellion: but against what? What exactly is it they are rebelling against?

If they really want to revolt against tyranny, why are they sublimating? Why don't they do something? Most of these types that "get into Satanism" are inversionist Christians and they shove their "Christian shit" in our faces as much or more than Fundamentalist Christians shove the Christian shit in our faces. They reek of Christianity, and within them it's an infection they try to get out of their systems by screaming and wailing about it and turning it all upside down. Satanists don't want to hear it. An American flag side ways or upside down is recognizably still an American flag. And a cross upside down is still a Cross. Same thing.

The RHP is the way of Yang. The LHP is the way of Yin. That's it. And like Yin and Yang, you cannot separate the two. Yin/Dark/Receptive. Yang/Light/Active.

But this is the danger of the Lie. . . when Right and Left become something that are against each other, then the RHP is a false path.... a false Light. And LHP is felt (not thought, but felt) to be frightening and evil. This misconception, within a person, is the striving, craving for the Light Alone rebelling to exist without the Dark Parent from whence it came. That is truly self-destructive... The only people who understand what RHP and LHP really are. . . and then also see these as separate and opposed. . . are Klippoths. They see it opposed because they themselves are opposed to their own shell-ish non-being. In otherwords, they know this Lie and Falsehood through their own peculiar flesh!

Apparently, or so I'm told, there is some kind of Thelemite tradition that has it that the LHP was derived from the thesis about Lucifer being God's angel seated on His left. It spoke or taught of a more aggressive approach to the occult and was adopted by many styles of magic, including early Thelema. That puts a whole new slant on the confusion over LHP and RHP which is, in fact, very new and exclusively Western, perhaps WASP only.

The left-hand path, as I remember Campbell stating, is more of a exploratory and non-conventional way of thinking.

The right-hand path is conventional -- the tried-n-true, customary, with-the-tribe kinda thinking.

The Bible speaks of the right hand not letting the left hand know what it is doing.

-- Voltaire in letter to Jean Jacques Rousseau, dated August 30, 1755.

"All things must be examined, debated, and investigated without exception and without regard for anyone's feelings. We must ride roughshod over all these ancient puerilities, overturn the barriers that reason never erected, give back to the arts and sciences the liberty that is so precious to them."

It just seems to me that the 'right' is usually referred to with Jesus or God.

The 'left' tends to lean the other way. A few examples:

Mar 16:5 And entering into the sepulcher, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment;

Luk 1:11 And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

Joh 21:6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

Rev 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:

1Pe 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:
1Pe 3:22 Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him.

Mat 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Truly, you are sent out as sheep in the midst of wolves.

Sadly there is much confusion. LEFT VS. RIGHT. Know that the evil ones capitalize on your confusion.

LEFT = Liberal = WRONG? LEFT BEHIND?? RIGHT = FUNDAMENTALIST CHRISTIANS = ALL THAT IS GOOD?

USE YOUR OWN MINDS. BE NOT FOLLOWERS OF ANY MAN.

It turns out that mirror reflection symmetry can still exist, but only if every particle has a mirror partner [1,2,3]. Mirror particles interact amongst themselves in the same way as ordinary particles, except where ordinary particles have left-handed interactions, mirror particles have right-handed interactions. In this way, it turns out that mirror reflection symmetry can exist as an exact symmetry of nature, provided that mirror matter exists.

Mirror particles have been suggested as candidates for the inferred dark matter (dark matter: (cosmology) a hypothetical form of matter that is believed to make up 90 percent of the matter in the universe; it is invisible (does not absorb or emit light) and does not collide with atomic particles but exerts gravitational force) in the universe [4,5,6,7,8]. Mirror matter, if it exists, would have to be very weakly interacting with ordinary matter. This is because the forces between mirror particles are mediated by mirror boson (boson: Any particle that obeys Bose-Einstein statistics but not the Pauli exclusion principle; all nuclei with an even mass number are bosons) s. Mirror particles and ordinary particles can only interact with each other via gravity (gravity: A solemn and dignified feeling) , via so-called kinetic mixing of mirror bosons with ordinary bosons or via the exchange of as of yet unknown particles. These interactions can only be very weak.

THE ABYSS..

the point at which the Adept chooses to cross the Qabalistic Abyss, location of Choronzon and the illusory eleventh Sephira, Da'ath or Knowledge. He must give up all that he is, including (for the moment) the guidance of his Holy Guardian Angel and leap into the Abyss. If his accumulated Karma is sufficient to carry him through and he has been utterly thorough in his self-destruction, he becomes a 'babe of the abyss', arising as a Star

New religious movements which describe themselves as followers of the Left-Hand Path inverted much of the symbolism that they associate with the more "traditional" Right-Hand Path, such as the following Biblical passage:
And he shall separate them one from another,
as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats.
And he shall set the sheep on his right,
but the goats on his left.
— Matthew 25: 32-33
Taking a cue from this, modern followers of the Left-Hand Path in the West sometimes utilize the symbol of a goat or Baphomet, and sometimes refer to followers of Right-Hand Path religions as sheep, implying that they exhibit a "herd mentality".

CROOK AND FLAIL...

Little Bo peep fell fast asleep
And dreamt she heard them bleating;
But when she awoke, she found it a joke,
For they were still a-fleeting.
Then up she took her little crook,
Determined her to find them;
She found them indeed, but it made her heart bleed,
For they'd left their tails behind them.
It happened one day, as Bo peep did stray
Into a meadow hard by,
There she espied their tails side by side,
All hung on a tree to dry.
She heaved a sigh and wiped her eye,
And over the hillocks went rambling,
And tried what she could, as a sheperdess should,
To tack each again to its lambkin.

Re: What does the left hand path mean?
Study the Tarot and the Kabbalah in Crowely's system. The Left Hand Path refers to the Pillar of Severity, or the left hand column of the Kabbalah's tree of life. Think of it as extreme micromanagement of every single aspect of life, it is the Stoic approach, the don't do this, don't do that, don't do the other thing or "god" might get pissed, as opposed to the Right Hand path, the Epicurian, that of lets us eat drink and be (or feel) Merry (or Mary) for tommorrow we die. The ideal path to work and walk is the middle path. But there are two middle pathes that lead you through DAATH into the Supernals, the lower middle path, and the upper middle path. The Goal of pathworking is to find your Way to the Truth so you actually live the Life that will allow you to transcend above DAATH into the Supernals of Binah, Chokmah, to reach the god-state of Kether.

If you don't know the Way, you will not know the Truth to live the Life that will produce Immortality. You need to discover the Way, the Truth, and the Life to get to Kether.

Re: What does the left hand path mean?
I've seen reference to the terms as they relate to using powers for the good of ALL (being that we are all ONE) or the path of self-service (SEPARATION). Ancient (i.e., druidic) arts and skills are erroneously labeled "magick" to discourage serious inquiry by both the holy and the scientific.

The left-handed path is feminine (intuitive and receptive, magnetic) and the right-handed path is masculine (active, action, electric.) The whole of society has been engineered to separate the two and to label one ( or the other ) bad.

Like all polarities and opposites, we have set up a dilemma (or drama.) Always there is a fine thread in the milieu of the worn out old pathways and dead-ends. This is you own unique destiny. Your highest expression of the glory of you that is alive in the field of possibilities. This is the one you created with your heart before you chose to drop in at this time and space to be a witness. You chose the perfect blend of heaven with earthly expression.

If you have awoken out of the illusions but have yet to find truth, that is perfect balance. You are not yet full of new tales, so you have a moment to access your own. The pause between the "inbreath" and the "outbreath" or your Sat Nam (true name.) It is in this place beyond all rights and wrongs that treasures are found and brought back in to humanity.

No matter what you've done or how long you've been doing it, the heart path is vibrating for you to answer. It could be as small a thing as helping an old woman with the door. It is your book being written with flame, not ink or 1 and 0's. If you don't accept, and have instead chosen a different path , which many of us have done and continue to do, then we choose our own death. Simple as that. Not forever, for we are eternal beings, but for remaining in biological form.

The lesson for our earthly experience is not being grasped, so it's time to recycle. We await a saviour to slap sense into us as we refuse to answer the call of our own song. I believe that living in this way is natural and we have been conditioned out of it to a large extent. Living from the heart allows us to traverse both the yin and the yang planes in order to expand our consciousness as we have been doing up to now. But, it appears to me that we as a species have reached the point of where idiocy is the Supreme Being. It's like watching a tragic play where the actors are miming hysterical overreactors whilst not noticing the beams on the roof are on fire.

Both the extremes of either Left or Right can create a singularity that will create the conditions for a spontaneous "snap" back to balance by confronting that other energy (your fears) head on. At this point, it better be possible.

Re: What does the left hand path mean?
Its very simple once You have the Esoteric understandings.

The Left-Hand Path is the Path of Negavity or Service to Self.

The Right-Hand Path is the Path of Positivity or Service to Others.

They're the Two paths of Polarity among other Esoteric meanings plus and minus. That said - Once You've integrated both Paths - You're then on the Middle Path (Christ Consciousness) - That is if You seek It - Where the Highest and Best Good of All Things is desired and efforted for All aspects of the Creator.

The Middle Path of Harmony or Balance (Also known in Esoteric Circles as Kymatica).

hf
Peace, Light, Life, Love, Unity and Harmony.
