5-7-07 - Anhyrdrous Ammonia leaking from a tanker in Greensburg has led to the evacuation of the entire northeast quadrant of the town. Anhydrous ammonia is used in farming and is toxic if breathed in large quantities.

The 30,000 gallon tank with 14,000 gallons of anhrydrous on board began leaking around 11:45am. It happened as crews were trying to repair a valve.

KAKE News showed video of the white gas escaping from the tank at noon. Residents were just allowed to return to the community Monday morning. For now, access to the city has been closed.

The wind direction, west NW, is blowing toward the NE quadrant of the city. If that changes, the entire city could be evacuated.

Poor people can't get a break.

I just watched the press conference. They said there are 'plugs' on the way to them right now to stop the tanker leak so all should be fine. The town was mostly evacuated already and people were just beginning to trickle back. In other news, they found a survivor and pulled them out of wreckage last night.

The press conference they just showed on CNN said the tanker has BEEN leaking since it was overturned due to the tornado and the leak just accelerated when it was uprighted.

1- It's called Greensburg, not ville.
2- It's hardly an unprecedented tornado as many f5's have made their way through these plains.
3- The tornado was classified between a F3 and F4.

(sidenote, there were 7 known dead with in minutes of it happening. So the 1 dead 1 injured is pure bullshit. There were bodies laying on top of rubble piles in plain site. The injured list is around 400-500 and the death list is classified until a later time)

NWS says Greensburg tornado was an F5.

Now they just said the nozzle was broken off as the tanker was being uprighted, apparently not leaking before. Doesnt look like anyone was around anyway.
