Some 2000-year old man told us that, did he? According to the New Testament, Herod was alive AFTER Jesus was born because he ordered boys less than five years old to be put to death, fearing the information from the Three Wise Men that a messiah had been born. |

Correct. The "New Testament" is wrong. Not surprising that they got their facts wrong when they made it up, but this is yet another nail in the coffin of the new testament story. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 233973 Netherlands 05/08/2007 07:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It is more likely that Jesus was born 4-3 BC. The following illustrates the utility of applying Chinese astrology to deduce the DOB of Jesus, etc. The events surrounding the birth (Table B-1), known items describing Him (Table B-2) and the Tzu Wei's description of Him (Table B-3) are contained herein. Table B-1 Events Surrounding The Birth Of Jesus 4 BC: Augustus Caesar issues a decree that a census of the Roman empire be taken in the spring of 3 BC (possibly for the ultimate purposes of taxation). Pre 3 BC: Quirinius, Governor of Syria27, implements Caesar's decree in a way which will disturb the Jews least. He conspires with the Sanhedrin to direct the Jews to keep the Passover where their family records are held. Quirinius likely coordinated this action with Herod (Governor of Israel). 30 Mar. 3 BC: Joseph and a pregnant Mary arrive in Bethlehem (6 miles from Jerusalem) on Saturday just before Passover begins at sundown and seek shelter.28 31 Mar. 3 BC: Jesus is born on this Sabbath morning, the first day of Passover, at 8:20 AM. Danjo deduces that Jesus was born in 3 BC and offers six possible dates and times (including this one).29 3-2 BC: The Magi30 visit Herod seeking the new born king of the Jews. They may have deduced the nominal year of Jesus's impending birth by applying the I - Ching astrological techniques31 to the prophecies of Daniel (appointed master of astrologers32 by Nebuchadnezzar). Daniel predicted the year the "anointed one" (Messiah) would appear.33 They compared the manifestation of the Buddha with these predictions, subtracting 35 years from Daniel's predicted year and arrived at the nominal birth year of the Jesus. Herod consults Jewish priests (the Sanhedrin)34 and discover that the "King of the Jews" was to be born in Bethlehem34 and related this information to the Magi. The Magi apply Tzu Wei astrological techniques to isolate specific dates when "king like" male children were born in Bethlehem. They find the record of Jesus' birth and depart for Nazareth. 17 Jun. 2 BC: The Magi (oriental scientists) from the east, anticipating a unique conjunction of Jupiter and Venus35 (one so close that the two planets appear to collide because their positions could not be resolved or separated by the unaided eye), coordinate their visit and presentation of gifts to Jesus because they want to make a lasting impression on an "avatar". The "stars" may have indeed led them to Jesus, because the Magi identified Jesus by using the Tzu Wei Chinese astrology. Polaris (not then at the pole) is the Tzu Wei or king star which gives this Chinese astrology its name. 9 Jan. 1 BC: Herod's soothsayers noted the total lunar eclipse35 on the midnight of this day and predicted that it bode ill for Herod who was besieged with problems (among other things, he had recently executed one of his sons for trying to usurp his throne and he was suspicious of the other). A little later: Herod, not having access to the Magi's astrology, uses the only information he has available. He tries to kill the new born king and end the threat of yet another possible usurper of his throne. He put to death babies in the greater Bethlehem area back to as far as January 3 BC. Jesus may have remained safe in Nazareth (66 miles north of Jerusalem) even if his family had not fled to Egypt. Herod failed to order that the records in Bethlehem be checked for the current location of all male children born during that period. The Jewish historian Josephus records the death of Herod shortly after the 9 January eclipse.35 [link to www.barry.warmkessel.com] |

There's probably still more hidden in the enclaves in the Vatican basement. Table B-2 Descriptions Of Jesus/Christ According to Publius Lentulus,36 agent for Tiberias Caesar "There has appeared in Palestine a man who is still living and whose power is extraordinary. He has the title given him of Great Prophet; his disciples call him the Son of God. He raises the dead and heals all sorts of diseases. He is a tall, well-proportioned man, and there is air of severity in his countenance which at once attracts the love and reverence of those who see him. His hair is the color of new wine from the roots to the ears, and thence to the shoulders it is curled and falls down to the lowest part of them. Upon his forehead, it parts in two after the manner of the Nazarenes. His forehead is flat and fair, face without blemish or defect and adorned with a graceful expression. His nose and mouth are very well proportioned, his beard is thick and the color of his hair. His eyes are grey and extremely lively. In his reproofs, he is terrible, but in his exhortations and instructions, amiable and courteous. There is something wonderfully charming in this face with a mixture of gravity. He is very straight in stature, his hands large and spreading, his arms are very beautiful. He talks little, but with a great quality, and is the handsomest man in the world." We have substantial authentic evidence that the Jesus of history is the same person revealed to us in the Gospel accounts. We have the first and second century apologists who wrote extensively about Jesus and Christianity. Some of these were men who knew the Apostles. There were reliable second-generation historians who were taught by the Apostles who were in turn alive during the ministry of Jesus. [link to www.forerunner.com] Was Jesus Real Or A Myth? Dr. D. James Kennedy Sun - 12/10 There are some people who believe that the Bible is a bunch of nice stories and even fairy tales or myths. They go so far as to question whether Jesus even lived. But Jesus Christ lives and this week on The Coral Ridge Hour, Dr. Kennedy shares evidence confirming this fact. 14min [link to media.coralridge.org] |

The bible was written before the Before Christ BC And After Death AD were used. The BC is the resurrection Ad is the resurrection not the birth date. Other wise the years Jesus lived would have no designation! You would have BC [before Christ] DL [During Life] AD [after death]. Otherwise where do we account for the time he walked the earth!! There is literally a MOUNTAIN of evidence for Christianity. An introduction to some of the basic evidence can be found right here: [link to www.godlikeproductions.com] So all you knuckleheads who think you can debunk Christianity why don't you go over there right now and get started. And those of you who want to really, really, really find the Truth why don't you go over there right now. What are you waiting for? Go get it. |

People like you, OP, were so cocky about it. In the end, the Bible ended up being right. I forget the exact claims of the old ones, but I remember there was a King that I think David spoke about. They said it couldn't have happened because he was in a another area... turns out David was talking about a different person with the same name. Or when they criticized the Bible because the Roman general didn't want to kill Jesus even though he was a ruthless killer. And it turned out he was under pressure from the empire to not let any chaos arise. That's why he was hesitant. |

Every religious text is simply a metaphor to help the droves understand their divinity. Each has its merits and downfalls, some more than others, but all have the same intention, which is teaching humans what we really are. Thinking about it in any other way is a waste of time, which is exactly what you guys are doing. Fighting over whether the Bible is "wrong" is probably one of the most idiotic things I can think of, and a waste of everyone's time. The theme is the point, and theme is that we all share the divine spark, in the form of spirit. Don't get boggled down with history, you fucking idiots. Thanks. |

What I would disagree with is that King Herod killed all the first born males. There is nothing to support this except the Bible. King Herods leading critics of the period manage to gloss over this atrocity but mention many smaller things. Didn't happen. |
