They didn’t detect anything ahead of time.

As much as I like cats.

I myself can hear the noise start even before the cats moved.

Glad they were ok.

nice to see a video on this, animals have been proven to detect earthquakes before they happen.

I heard it too, but I don't think it was loud enough to make all the cats sit up at attention like that.

Something more than just the noise caused their reaction.

you can hear a clunk when they all react, obliviously not a precognition al all.

If they were all meowing and sketching out an hour before, I'd agree.

This is a "cat cafe". You go hang out and drink coffee with a bunch of cats. No need to own a pet, when you can rent one for an hour for the price of a coffee.

Re: The moment a group of cats detects an earthquake just before it hits
The first EQ I was ever in was in San Diego in September/October of 1987. I woke up suddenly in the middle of the night with possibly the worst headache I'd ever had. I laid there in bed for about two minutes and then felt the building begin to shake (my apartment was on the first floor). It lasted maybe thirty to forty-five seconds. When it stopped, I noticed my headache was completely gone, and didn’t return. There is something that happens just before an earthquake that can affect people and animals. Not surprised that animals can feel it.

All characters and events in this forum --even those based on real people-- are entirely fictional. All celebrity comments are impersonated...poorly. The above post contains coarse language and due to the content it should not be viewed by anyone.

Re: The moment a group of cats detects an earthquake just before it hits
P waves travel much faster but are much weaker than S waves. The cats detect the P waves which always arrive before the S waves. Earthquake early warning systems detect P waves as well.

Think of the P wave as the oscillation you witness by pushing and pulling the end of a slinky, whereas S waves are what you would get if you shake the slinky from side to side.
 Quoting: Anton Chigurh

+1

I agree.

You get the P-Wave (a jolt), which is the initial "slip" of the seismic plate (or whatever), followed by the S-Waves that are a rolling undulating movement of the earth.

A Jolt, and a Roll are typical of earthquakes.

A rock in a still pond, splash, followed by waves and rings of motion on the pond.

Wow, that's a pretty cool set up for the cats. Is it a cat rescue place?
In his poem Human Pride, Marx admits that his aim is not to improve the world, reform or revolutionize it, but simply to ruin it and enjoy it being ruined:

With disdain I will throw my gauntlet full in the face of the world,
And see the collapse of this pygmy giant whose fall will not stifle my ardor.
Then will I wander godlike and victorious through the ruins of the world
And, giving my words an active force, I will feel equal to the Creator.

Re: The moment a group of cats detects an earthquake just before it hits
i've only been in one earth quake, but I heard it coming just like those cats did.

I could tell what direction it was coming from.

A metaphor would be that I could hear it coming just like you would hear a truck coming from afar or a train.

I was miles and miles from the epicenter. I would bet there would be less of that effect if one was closer.

I also felt when it (the earthquake waves) arrived, and I heard it leave and in what direction it left in.

Someone's gonna remember that and put it in the next earthquake movie.

why the funny bullshit meme? I'm telling the absolute truth. A few moments later, a friend from the epicenter texted me that she had just been in an earthquake. I said, yes, it just passed through here.

I suppose if a person lived in a very loud place, they would not hear an earthquake arrive.

My cat used to act like the ground was alive for about ten minutes after. He'd just keep jumping and trying not to touch the ground. It was funny.

I think animals do have some form of incites but this video isnt 100% proof of it in my opinion. A couple of the cats look disturbed but It could be territorial or mating related. It may have just occurred right before the EQ.
And at another time, when they raised a question about fortifications, he said that a city is not unfortified whose crowning glory is men and not bricks and stones.

Looks like may be a storage area for a restaraunt. You can see holding cells as well for the animals. Crazy.
