Solution to stop people poisoning my cats with deadly garden plants.

You don't have much of a case if your cat is in your neighbor's yard, eating the plants that are growing there.

Keep it inside and teach it to use a litter box

A. its crule to confine cats to the house because they are naturally outdoor loving animals.

B. its preposterous to suggest that i could somehow confine my cats to my own yard as they can scale fences with ease etc.

C. Cats are one of the cleanest animals and the only thing thats happening to the neighbours precious flower bed is that its getting fertilized, not to mention that they also cover it back over with soil.

It is a lot more cruel to let a cat roam outside and be a victim of other animals, or run over by a car or abused by idiots in the neighborhood or suffering from the effects of weather. I have 4 very happy healthy cats who are indoor animals and they love it just fine.

If the cities had a real problems with it then there would be cat's on leash laws. But as far as that goes, there's only the spay and neuter your cat law.

If any neighbors have problems with a cat eating the prize gardenias, then take it up with the owner and don't kill the animal.

And if the cat is crapping or pissing in the garden then if it's neutered or spayed, be happy, your plants will grow brilliantly and you'll have some pretty little mushrooms to add to that.

First and foremost, nobody else loves your cat as much as you do and how dare you expect them to and how dare you assume they don’t mind caring for them just because you don’t feel like it. Pet owners always say their pets are as important to them as their children or any other family member. Just for fun let’s pretend we’re talking about your 2-year-old daughter.

In the event you are unaware, there are people in the world who like to hurt children and do very bad things to them. There’s no explaining this behavior and it can’t be changed. And short of incarceration or death it cannot be stopped. It’s always happened and it’s always going to happen.

This fact puts the burden on YOU to be responsible. That’s a no-brainer and something you should already know unless you’re only two years old yourself and if that’s the case, you’re a pretty good typist for a two-year-old. Life’s rough, get a helmet.

Do you even worry they could be hit by a vehicle, raped or murdered? Apparently not or you would not be practicing this behavior. If your child was constantly in my yard behaving in a less than sociable acceptable manner you’re damn right I would be at your door with said child by the collar wondering who the hell is responsible for raising such a barbarian. When that didn’t work (knowing full well it wouldn’t if the child was doing this in the first place) I would then be forced to go to the authorities. Then you could go cry to the media or another forum wondering why they got taken away from you or even worse had their life taken from them.

you obviously don't have the slightest clue about the capabilities of a cat taking care of its self out here in the countryside, their is abundant food supply in the form of rabbits, mice, birds and insects, not to mention shelter and the fact that it can come inside for free cat food if it wants, they dont need somebody to take it round on a leash and wipe its ass, which im sure you would probably try and do.

No Dog or Cat Feces in the Garden
Keep dog and cat droppings out of your garden and compost pile. While many animal manures make valuable soil amendments, parasites carried in dog and cat feces can cause diseases in humans. (Their fleas also carry diseases harmful to humans)

Dog and cat droppings often contain roundworms and other parasitic nematodes. Gardeners can ingest roundworm eggs from soil contaminated with dog or cat feces. Contaminated soil often is carried to the mouth by dirty hands, especially among young children, or the edible parts of fruits and vegetables. Infection by just a few roundworms usually causes no problems, but more severe infections may cause fevers, bronchitis, asthma, or vision problems.

Another concern with cat feces is toxoplasmosis, a parasite that infects humans and other animals. Of all creatures, only cats are known to excrete oocysts--a form of the parasite that can survive in the environment for years and is resistant to most disinfectants.

Toxoplasmosis is a serious concern for pregnant women, persons with AIDS, and patients receiving immunosuppressive treatments. Most others who contract toxoplasmosis exhibit mild symptoms, such as headaches, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, or sore throats. Humans become infected with toxoplasmosis primarily by injesting contaminated food and water. Gardens are a secondary source of infection. Roundworms and toxoplasmosis need not deter you from gardening.

The following precautions will minimize your chances of contracting either:

Don't add dog or cat feces to your compost pile or garden soil.
Keep pets from using your vegetable garden as a toilet. Laying 1-inch mesh chicken fencing over the vegetable bed usually deters pets but allows vegetables to grow up through it.
Regularly clean up and dispose of dog and cat droppings.
Treat your dogs and cats for roundworms.
Never feed your cats uncooked meat or bones. Most cats become infected with toxoplasmosis by eating tissues of infected animals, including birds and small mammals.
Wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly before eating.
Wear gloves while gardening.
Wash your hands thoroughly after handling soil.
