Kinda interesting. The SC quake is unusual for that area.

Must have been a tiny one...I'm only a few miles from the epicenter of the one in SC and didn't feel a thing.

Somehow, I don't think it's a coincidence. It will be interesting to see what else goes on in the next few days. That quake in the Gulf of Mexico was quite unusual, as was the small quake in New Mexico.

The SC quake...I don't know much about how wet they got there during the recent spate of storms, but could that have anything to do with it? I dunno.

But I also can't find anything in the news about it. Like I said, I am only about five miles from the epicenter and didn't feel anything. It was so small as to not even make the local news.

Re: Small quake Columbia, SC; small quake near New Madrid Fault...
The New Madrid fault is a real American tragedy just waiting to happen. I'm not that far away myself and can expect heavy damage even in Arkansas...What really got my attention was when we had a USGS van come thru last summer that was "thumping" the ground somehow and taking echo readings. An alert was issued about that time for earthquake preperations. I don't recall it getting much media attention, but it was big news to a small town like mine.

Working for a large telephone company, I can tell you that we just aren't prepared for something like a New Madrid quake. The equipment was not designed for such an event. In fact, I'd bet that nearly all construction in this region was built without any regard for quakes like is done in California and other places....

It will be a very bad thing....Oh well, there's always FEMA....I'm going to cry!
