FREEDOM2374@YAHOO User ID: 244045 5/29/2007 10:31 PM Report abusive post | ACETONE TO INCREASE GAS MILEAGE
| Quote | HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS TO INCREASE THEIR GAS MILAGE. I WAS TOLD BY A CUSTOMER THAT 4oz OF 100% ACETONE IN AT LEAST 10 GALS OF GAS COULD INCREASE MILAGE. HAS ANYONE ELSE TRIED THIS, AND WHAT WERE YOUR RESULTS? |

 | | Re: ACETONE TO INCREASE GAS MILEAGE | Quote | I told a friend about it..he tried it..and yes..it worked.
But there is a downside...
it erodes any types of plastics or rubber (Check your fuel connections..if there are ANY rubber hoses involved they wont last long)..
And the other downside...is that your engine will burn out in about two or three tankfulls...
But..it DOES increase your milage...at the cost of dramitacally reducing engine life. We cannot choose what we are..
Yet what are we but the sum total of our choices?
....and they always lead to DOOM!! |

All plastics are not equal. "I want you to go to the window, open it, stick your head out and yell: 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore.'"

Sorry dude but this is a lame ass attempt at a lie. Pure Acetone has been tested with many of the parts you are talking about in your lie. The results have shown no breakdown of the parts only swelling and that is impressive since the acetone in your tank is only 3oz per 10 USgallons or less. Also it may improve the life of your engine not burn it out. Read the truth here.

It was thought the acetone would harm engines that ran on leaded fuel, but today's engines have hardened valve seats and stronger piston rings so it should not be an issue. Also, fuel lines are not ordinary rubber but are made with neoprene, which is fuelproof. |

 | | Re: ACETONE TO INCREASE GAS MILEAGE | Quote | VERY bad idea. Modern fuel injectors and its plumbing do NOT like acetone.
Now if you have a pre emission carberated car, it may work.
But I have seen dynomometer tests and the claimed increase in power and mileage are a myth. non sufficit Orbis |

boost mpg with urine and a couple rolls of nickels
approx: 5 to 10 mpg |

enjoy
acetone will degrade gaskets and fuel system over time. |

You are full of it and you know it, I used it for a year in my Jeep and also in my Nissan. There was an improved gas mileage. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 60359 5/30/2007 3:06 PM | | Re: ACETONE TO INCREASE GAS MILEAGE | Quote | I've been using it in my cars (made in the 1990's) for about a year or so now and haven't had any problems yet (that I know of). It seems to help the cars run better.
I'm not sure about plastics in more modern cars. I don't like the new cars that much, too many chips and the chemicals used to make the interiors might be unhealthy, so I'm sticking with my old cars. |

yer so full of shit,
yer engine will not fall apart or will it hurt any plastics or rubber in fuel system, acetone is highly dilluted with the gasoline.
acetone improves the combustion properties of the fuel and fuel burns thoroughly, thus improving gas milage.....period!!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 215528 5/30/2007 3:45 PM | | Re: ACETONE TO INCREASE GAS MILEAGE | Quote | i did it for about 3 months one summer in a 98 dodge durango
the exhaust fumes where WAY less 'smelly'
and i went from 15 to 16 mpg to 19 to 20
i have a new toyota truck now, haven't gotten around to doing it yet, it's a bit of a hassle to get it out of the can into a pourable container without getting on your hands or on your paint... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 244411 5/30/2007 4:26 PM | | Re: ACETONE TO INCREASE GAS MILEAGE | Quote | use a glass soda bottle to pour it. Most acetone comes in a metal can. I've been using it for about a year and need to check the mileage without my foot into the pedal. No huge gains. All the same I wouldn't trust anything in the MSM owned by GE ran thru the CFR like mythbusters or consumer reports when it comes to something like big oil.
I wouldn't put it past the auto makers to have come out with the different fuel mixtures and electronics just to throw the alternative fuels (acetone) off. |

Zoticus User ID: 254185 6/19/2007 11:26 AM | | Re: ACETONE TO INCREASE GAS MILEAGE | Quote | I'd try it on a weed eater or mower but certainly not my vehicle that I depend on. I can see how running a small amount thru your system would help clean it out, but I would not suggest this as a mileage booster or for anyone to use it on a regular basis.
My question however is, Is there another formula/chemical that could produce such an effect that would not be a threat of damage?
I know some vehicles run like crap and knock pretty bad if they don't run high octane fuel, but I've seen some run better on the most rotgut gas you can get (without water contamination) then if you run the best stuff.
I would not advice anyone trying this unless you actually have a car that you don't care about or need to depend on to get you to work daily. Testing is all good, but remember don't always believe everything to hear or read. I could boast that this acetone myth is giving me 97 mpg and no mechanical problems for the last 5 years, but wheres my proof? Posting without some sort of way to PROVE it actually works and I am not talking about these silly videos you see on youtube etc does not mean anything! |
