Texas: Deer Park tells city to shelter in place as plant catches fire

I would not shelter in place with chemicals burning at a plant factory.

This is at the Intercontinental Terminal Companies on Independence Parkway. There is no shelter-in-place for La Porte, Pasadena and Channelview residents.

How to shelter-in-place

Bring your family and pets inside.
Lock doors, close windows, air vents and fireplace dampers.
Turn off fans, air conditioning and forced air heating systems.
Take your emergency supply kit unless you have reason to believe it has been contaminated.
Go into an interior room with few windows, if possible.
Seal all windows, doors and air vents with 2-4 mil. thick plastic sheeting and duct tape. Consider measuring and cutting the sheeting in advance to save time.
Cut the plastic sheeting several inches wider than the openings and label each sheet.
Duct tape plastic at corners first and then tape down all edges.

I used to live in that area. "Stinkadena" lol. This is unfortunately a common occurrence.

From some of the photos, this appears to be a floating roof tank that is on fire. This would imply a lighter liquid material. No LPG's or heavy fuel oils so far.

The Deer Park terminal currently has "3.1 million barrels (2.2 million cbm) of capacity in 242 tanks. It stores all kinds of petrochemical liquids and gases, as well as fuel oil, bunker oil and distillates. The terminal has five ship docks and ten barge docks, rail and truck access, as well as multiple pipeline connections."

It's a giant tank of naphtha that is burning, nasty.

This would not be a very low concentration of benzene, so that is a plus. This would be a light feedstock material. Too bad it wasn't a product with nitrogen blanketing. That would have allowed snuffing of the fire pretty quick. At least it is mostly going to be an obnoxious smoke issue if anything.

They gave update , they are trying to keep other tanks catching it is oil and gasoline
