Top astrophysics teams from both the Universities of Virginia, and Massachusetts recently discovered that some two billion years ago, the Milky Way galaxy put the cosmic "come hither" on a nearby galaxy come now to be known as the Sagittarius Dwarf Elliptical Galaxy.
Scientists traced this little galaxy's path playing hard-to-get and ring around the rosy as having circled up and around the Milky Way at a near 90 degree off-angle at least eight different times until finally circling down around to now intersect and merge through the Milky Way equatorial disc -- right through our local space.
With the aid of infrared telescopes, and super computers, scientists were recently able to distinguish the Sagittarius Dwarf presence, position, and looping shape out from the mass of background stars. All were astonished to discover a new star map clearly putting our solar system right into the intersecting stream of the two galaxies.

WHICH WAY ARE WE GOING AS A SOLAR SYSTEM?
Sub-Clue:
Fact: Although NASA launched Voyager I and II probes were launched thirty years ago, WE still have not gotten beyond the moving heliospheric bubble that the solar system travels out to reach still space so they can determine once and for all: "WHICH WAY WE ARE TRAVELING IN SPACE TO VALIDATE THEIR THEORIES" -- As there is no close stationary landmark object to actually physically measure against, and all is just optically a single dimension from vantage point Earth and within our own moving bubble, they have only been able to guess our direction of travel.
The distances out in space are so vast that we have to measure anything much outside our Solar System in terms of light years.
While being able to now make out objects at the far edge of our expanding universe some twenty eight billion light years away with the Hubble, we may have gotten a bit ahead of ourselves...
Although we sent out the Voyager 1 probe towards deep space almost 30 years ago speeding along at nearly 39,000 mph, the distances out in space are indeed so great that we have not yet arrived past the edge of our own solar system's moving bubble called the heliosphere to be able to get a measurement of which way we are actually going yet -- in contrast to the interstellar space beyond.
Is getting our actual direction of travel down all that important?
You bet...
We one and all have had the experience of thinking we knew which way we were going,
and the one thing that saved us in time, was to finally look up and notice that the major
landmarks were all off.
If we're smart, we don't waste any more time or energy broadcasting or bemoaning the
fact, we just chuckle at the humor of our predicament, cut our losses, and get on with it.

Thank you Anime Eyes for pointing out that the matt that posted this back last year is the actual discoverer matt that is listed in the curezone article.
This means that if these discoveries go big, and it appears that now nothing will stop the inormation from getting out, that this info was posted by a godlike poster here as a discovery before anywhere, and that the actaul discoverer is a godlike poster.

I dont see how the 90 degree angle of the Milky Way has anything to do with anything. Maybe our solar system is travelling with the MW galaxy, but is tilted 90 degrees. Why must the solar system equitorial plane have to be exactly in line with the equitorial plane of the MW galaxy, for us to be moving around it?

The Milky Way is a powerful whirlpool with these swirling arms...
The Solar System does not have the kind of gravitational oomph to permanently be flying @ a completely solo angle and attitude amidst such massive forces...
Q: Think there would be any way possible for "whole galaxies" to be drawn in like child's play and pulled into such a whirlpool and our little solar system right in the midst not be equally subject of the massive gravitational pull of this whirlpool with the Sagittarius 'A' massive black hole at its center..?
