Rant! YRMC Medical Examiner and doctors! My brother-in-law came home from work Saturday feeling sick. He started throwing up. He had just come from work where he was cleaning the porta pottys at the Border Patrol station where there are many Guatemalan refugees. The next morning his wife called 911 because he had become unresponsive. His heart stopped by the time they got there and again on the way to the hospital. By 11 am we were told he would probably not survive as his kidneys were shutting down, which caused potassium to build up and stop his heart. We kept asking why his kidneys were shutting down and could get no answer. They seemed unconcerned when told that he cleaned the porta pottys at the BP station 5 days a week! He passed away approximately 24 hours after his 1st symptoms. Why wouldn't the medical examiner order an autopsy? Especially given what he did for a living and given the possibility that if he had possibly contracted something contagious that could harm the entire Yuma community! What disease kills a man with 24 hours? The only 2 I could find that matched his symptoms were Ebola and Cholera. By the way, he had just gotten bloodwork and a clean bill of health 2 weeks ago. We need to know that our community is safe! Yes I know there is a chance that he could have died of natural causes but what if it wasn't?

We also have to realize some of these people live in places where good drinking water is unavailable. Not all of these people live in places where there is electricity or water. And some never see a doctor. I have heard this many times. So we really don’t know what is crossing these borders undetected. I’m sure this has been happening for YEARS.
