"Al Qaeda" is totally fake and a made-up term. It means "the base" or "the anus" in Arabic, which no organization would ever call themselves. Condi Rice had never even heard of "Al Qaeda" when she joined the Bush administration.

Now they're the big bad global bogeyman -- shadowy, ubiquitous and responsible for everything. Just another psy-op in the "war on terror."
