What was the highest recorded temperature on planet earth?
If i recall something like 137 farenhiet.

But I think at that temperature still you can survive.

What will the next higher temperatures do you like 140, 145, 150, 155, 160, 165, 170?

The highest recorded by a WMO station is 52.6° at Javobabad Pakistan.

Only 6 WMO stations recorded temps above 51° so far.

That figures out to 126.68F. It get that hot in Saudi Arabia all the time. It think the OP is right with the 137F. That was recorded in Death Valley, CA in 1977 or so.

Re: What was the highest recorded temperature on planet earth?
The hottest temperature on Earth ever recorded most likely occurred in Death Valley, California during 43 consecutive days between July 6 and August 17, 1917. During those days, the temperature was over 48 degrees Celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit). The national weather service recorded 56.7 °C (134 °F). The date reported there was July 10, 1913.

There may be many 'unofficial' readings...

My Father InLaw is a weather nut...Has his own meteorology station and is part of the linked group of 'official' stations...

Before he became official, he had a new record windspeed for the state, but it could not be 'verified' as he had not had his equipment OK'ed by the state...

He now has his 'certificate' and officially calibrated equipment, but the previous record still stands...

Libya recorded the highest temperature:

However, the record highest temperature ever measured in the U.S (134 degrees F at Death Valley, CA in July of 1913), and the hottest temperature ever recorded anywhere on the globe (136 F at Al' Aziziyah, Libya in September of 1922) occurred well before global warming was a buzzword, and despite the recent series of warm years, globally, these records have not seriously threatened.

Re: What was the highest recorded temperature on planet earth?
Hottest Place in the World Hottest Recorded Temperature
EL AZIZIA, LIBYA

Hottest Temperature facts

Location: El Azizia is located on the northern part of the African continent.

Facts: On September 13, 1922 the thermometer reached a blistering 136° F/57.8° C.

How Hot is Hot?

There are many places on earth that are plenty hot - record-breaking hot. In fact, there's a good chance on the day this record-breaking temperature was recorded by a meteorological station in El Azizia in 1922 there were other places hundreds of miles away that were even hotter. In all likelihood, this record temperature has been exceeded since then in many places on earth, but we have no official records of the temperatures. It is important to note that when atmospheric temperatures are recorded it is not the surface temperature, where it can sometimes reach 150° F/ 66° C, but rather the air temperature at about 5 feet (1.6 m) above the surface in an enclosed shelter. Of course, it's important that the temperature sensor is not exposed to direct sunlight - the shelter is louvered to permit air flow across the sensor. Most humans don't 'hang out' where some of the hottest tempertatures on earth are regularly experienced so there aren't a lot of meterological stations in these places to reliably record extreme temperatures."

I was in the desert in California (29 palms, if that means anything to anyone...) and the temperature, in the shade, was recorded at 143 Degrees F. (As I recall this was in 93 or 94)

There were many confirmations of this, but the National weather service did not record it...

So, while it was pretty well confirmed, there is no historical documentation.

Highest temperature ever recorded

* On earth†: 57.8 °C (136 °F); El Azizia, Libya, 1922-09-13.[2]
* In North America: 56.7 °C (134 °F); Death Valley, California, 1913-07-10.[2][3]
* In Asia: 54 °C (129 °F); Tirat Tsvi, Israel, 1942-06-21.[2]
* In Australia‡: 50.7 °C (123 °F); Oodnadatta, South Australia, 1960-01-02.[2][4]
* In Europe: 50 °C (122 °F); Seville, Spain, 1881-08-04.[2]
* In South America: 49 °C (120 °F); Rivadavia, Argentina, 1905-12-11.[2]
* In Canada: 45 °C (113 °F); Midale, Saskatchewan, 1937-07-05.[5]
* In Great Britain: 38.5 °C (101.3 °F) Brogdale, Kent, 2003-08-10.[6]
* In Norway: 35.6 °C (96.1 °F); Nesbyen, Buskerud, 1970-06-20.[7]
* In Ireland: 33.3 °C (91.9 °F); Kilkenny Castle, County Kilkenny, 1887-06-23.[8]
* In Antarctica: 15 °C (59 °F); Vanda Station, Scott Coast, 1974-01-05.[2]
* At the South Pole: -14.0 °C (7.5 °F); 1978-12-27.[5]

†There are a few reports of temperatures higher than this during phenomena known as heat bursts, including a report of an incredible 87 °C (188 °F) in Abadan, Iran in June of 1967. These temperatures have never been confirmed, and are not recognized as world records.[9]
‡On 1889-01-16, a temperature of 53 °C (128 °F) was recorded at Cloncurry, Queensland. It was measured with a non-standard thermometer, so it is unknown if this reading was valid or not.[2]

Other warm records

* Fastest temperature rise: 27 C° (49 F°) in just 2 minutes; Spearfish, South Dakota, 1943-01-22.[3]
* Warmest temperature ever recorded during a snowfall: 8.3 °C (47 °F); LaGuardia Airport, New York.[3]

Re: What was the highest recorded temperature on planet earth?
Scientists have produced superheated gas exceeding temperatures of 2 billion degrees Kelvin, or 3.6 billion degrees Fahrenheit.

This is hotter than the interior of our Sun, which is about 15 million degrees Kelvin, and also hotter than any previous temperature ever achieved on Earth, they say.

They don't know how they did it.

The feat was accomplished in the Z machine at Sandia National Laboratories.

"At first, we were disbelieving," said project leader Chris Deeney. "We repeated the experiment many times to make sure we had a true result."

Thermonuclear explosions are estimated to reach only tens to hundreds of millions of degrees Kelvin; other nuclear fusion experiments have achieved temperatures of about 500 million degrees Kelvin, said a spokesperson at the lab.

The achievement was detailed in the Feb. 24 issue of the journal Physical Review Letters.

The Z machine is the largest X-ray generator in the world. Its designed to test materials under extreme temperatures and pressures. It works by releasing 20 million amps of electricity into a vertical array of very fine tungsten wires. The wires dissolve into a cloud of charged particles, a superheated gas called plasma.

A very strong magnetic field compresses the plasma into the thickness of a pencil lead. This causes the plasma to release energy in the form of X-rays, but the X-rays are usually only several million degrees.

Sandia researchers still arent sure how the machine achieved the new record. Part of it is probably due to the replacement of the tungsten steel wires with slightly thicker steel wires, which allow the plasma ions to travel faster and thus achieve higher temperatures.

One thing that puzzles scientists is that the high temperature was achieved after the plasmas ions should have been losing energy and cooling. Also, when the high temperature was achieved, the Z machine was releasing more energy than was originally put in, something that usually occurs only in nuclear reactions.

Sandia consultant Malcolm Haines theorizes that some unknown energy source is involved, which is providing the machine with an extra jolt of energy just as the plasma ions are beginning to slow down.

Sandia National Laboratories is located by Albuquerque New Mexico and is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

It got up to 122 degrees F in the shade of my back yard in 1999. Other than that, Im not sure, I wasn't there.
I have heard many times that there are places where it gets to 160f in death valley because of downsloping winds off the mountains, but those are not official waether stations, and thats the catch. The tempreature has DEFINITLY got well above 136 in death valley, without a doubt. .
