So insted of blowing up a gas main, they decided to hit a steam pipe? Come on guys, you can't really believe this crap. I have lived here all my life. I have seen this before back in 86 I think. Thousands of pipes lie under ground here in NYC. Its only a matter of time before one blows.
Tell me, if you'd be planning a major terror-attack and wanted to do some pre-live testing, would you make the test as destructive as possible to get the attention of all three-digit dumbass agencies, or something in smaller scale, which would be seen as an "accident" by everyone? Quoting: Carlos

How about someone go back to yesterday, and analyze the situation.
Specifically, I'd think to know:
What exact time did the explosion take place?
What exact time was the first official pronouncement issued that "this is not terrorism, we have definitively ruled that out"?
I was still at work when this all occurred, and I didn't start watching until a good 1.5 hrs into it... but even by that point I was already reading such pronouncements.
And then I'd like someone to explain, logicially, how you can rule ANYTHING out "definitively" within any short length of time... especially in a case like this where we have a huge crater with steam blowing out at over 100 mph. I suppose Superman flew down into the hole, used his x-ray vision on the pipe or the transformer to see that there was no explosive residue? Thank God Superman's on our side!
Hell, they won't even be able to tell what exploded first until at least today.
Yes, I know the government lies, and apparently they believe it is perfectly ok to lie to us like we are sheep. But it pisses me off and makes me hate them. I lived on Long Island during TWA800, so I know the effect of lies on the public, and on public faith in government. Every one of my friends who saw the event from their boats with their own eyes KNOW they were lied to, and what do you think that does to confidence in our "leaders"?
"Leaders" is a misnomer. "Misleaders" would be much better.
Perhaps this was just a utility explosion. It DOES happen all the time.
But they really need to treat us more like adults and less like sheep - or better yet, like cattle than just might mass-panic and stampede over the cliff if (gasp!) we were ever told the truth.
I have no faith in my government to tell the truth whatsoever, and this is the result, what we see on GLP every single day. Rampant speculation and a disbelief in EVERY single "official" government pronouncement.
I don't believe a damn thing they tell us anymore. How's my morale? And is this good for our country or not? Are we all supposed to be sheep and believe everything they tell us? Or do WE THE PEOPLE HAVE A DUTY TO CRITICALLY ANALYZE EVERYTHING WE ARE TOLD?
The latter.
But it doesn't have to be this way.
All they need to do is be honest with us and treat us as adults. In this case that would mean the statement would be "We don't know if it is terror-related yet or not, but we don't see any indication so far that it is."
Doesn't seem much different from "Terrorism has been ruled out"... but it's light years apart actually. |

Ever ben around or near steam venting? Does anybody know when the steam stopped coming out of the hole? Can anyone relate that time with the first pronouncement of "it was not terrorism"? No one could have gotten near the hole to see inside it if steam was still coming out of it.....right? |

I believe that you could be correct. That doesn't mean that "they" will always lie, although it seems prudent to be skeptical about any claims about air quality.
However, I'm even more skeptical about claims about air quality made by people who haven't done any testing at all.
I think that the most accurate statement in this case is this: "The city claims that there is no asbestos in the air, and there is no evidence to contradict that claim."
I don't know what (if anything) the city has said about radioactivity. |

"Con Edison head Kevin Burke said the site had been inspected hours before the blast as part of a routine response to heavy rain that flooded parts of the city. He said crews had found nothing as they searched for steam rising from manhole covers or cracks in the street - indications that pipes could be in jeopardy. The steam systems are normally inspected every six weeks."

The reasons for the questions is to see if the official line is logical as it continues to be related to the public. If a report of no terrorism cause came out within minutes of the event occurring, then you would know it would be
Steam will burn your skin, so you would have to stay totally away from the source til it was stopped before being able to get next to it to see what its apparent cause was. No one is saying it was terrorism or not. Questions asked and answered could tell us if the official line does not correlate. You can't investigate the point of a steam explosion and say you know what happened til you can get close enough. You can speculate, but that is just pure speculation. |
