Military preparing for "civil unrest," says Catholic web site
This very popular Catholic web site is somewhat apocalyptic but never agrees with "conspiracy" hypotheses of any kind--it always presumes that both Church and political leaders are scrupulously honest with us. Nevertheless:

---
As an intelligence officer in the U.S. military recently wrote me, "My research on financial matters strongly suggests the severe economic decline may start as early as next year. Currently the official U.S. position, as expressed by the Federal Reserve, is that the economy will slow down in 2007, avoid a recession, and pick up in the later part of the year. A few private sector financial analysts have a different view and I’ve been in contact with them to help determine the timing and extent of the decline.

"They believe an economic decline or crash will happen unexpectedly and thus catch senior officials and analysts off-guard. As a result, quality analysis will be quickly needed to help senior decision-makers comprehend the ramifications. Therefore I'm preparing a preliminary assessment of the resulting civil unrest for the regions we monitor."
---

The salient point here is not the alleged reason for the "civil unrest," but rather the shocking claim that our military intelligence (under the direct control of Dick Cheney) is "predicting" it, which for Dick Cheney always means that he plans to cause or trigger it. We can only assume that the Cheney Mob is planning to "control" the manufactured "civil unrest" by sending our own military to take over our streets and control us.

It is amazing to me that this Catholic web site would dwell on the allegedly coming economic decline and gloss over the martial law of which its own contact in military intelligence is apparently warning. Such naive blindness.

By the way, the web site is apparently eager to return to "the peasant way of life." Clearly, the author of the article has never actually been a peasant! Peasant is not pleasant.

It's long been my contention that the Bush regime are looking for a chance to declare martial law and divert the normal electoral process.

I'm familiar with the Catholic web site you quote and you are correct...they are never overtly conspiratorial. They are almost Pollyanaish at times.

A huge economic downturn would bring civil unrest ...especially when/if combined other factors such as : more terrorist attacks in the US, complete loss of confidence in Bush (I think we're almost there), continued major casualties in Iraq, a war with Iran, war between Israel and Iran/Iraq, an overthrow of the Pakistani government, more scandals in the current administration and on and on and on.

Even something like a massive power outage that lasts a significant length of time or an internet outage that lasts a significant length of time would trigger panic.

The neocons are destroying the middle class. As former middle class citizens are unable to feed and shelter their families, civil unrest will certainly become an issue.

Vatican II is corrupt, they changed the mass to the Novus Order (new order) in readiness for the New World Order, you should check out the traditional Catholic websites and educate yourself about the wholesale changes that changed our Church, the anti-Christ now sits on the throne of St Peter and the daily sacrifice has been halted as prophesised in the book of Revelation. Check out this site for the truth about the current anti-pope and his hidden agendas.

I've read his book on the topic. He EXPECTS the world to be reduced to a peasant way of life (in the near future), however he isn't looking forward to it. He's as attached to his appliances and conveniences as any of us. Says so right in his book.

i don't remember where i read this, but there was a pretty in depth article about churches working in conjunction with the federal government during times of national crisis, but it had something to do with members being on the "look out" for bad guys,, you know the likes, freedom lovers, constitutionalists, those kind of subversives

i wish i could find the article, i'll dig

But the main feature of peasant life is not the lack of appliances, it is the utter powerlessness. Old World peasants were considered ignorant and worthless, suitable only as cannon fodder in imperial wars.

Negative.

They've had ample opportunities to do so.....i.e. blame shootings, refinery blowups, etc. on terrorism, yet THEY GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to claim that any and all events aren't terrorism-related and for Americans to go about their daily business.

Another thing they could do is stop propping the stock market, yet the stock market soars to record highs every day.
