Actually it shows how Russia are secretly pissed off, that the US keeps refusing to take the bait and get dragged into an expensive boots on the ground war with Iran, where Russia will immediately step in and sell all kinds of weapons to Iran to keep the war going for as long as possible and do as much damage to the US via proxy as possible..

Expect more attacks from Iran in the future, as they try and bait you to attack Iran/Russia again and again.

I'm guessing you've never heard of an army laying seige to a city as a means of conquering it? It was a classic Roman miltary tactic but was used for centuries before their own empire... including one by Alexander the Great at Tyre in 332BC and 1400 years later Napoleon used the same tactic at Toulon in 1793! Even George Wasington used it at Boston in June, 1775.


The concept was very simple: you simply surrounded the enemy stronghold and prevented anything from moving in/out and starved them to death -or their final, desperate act of survivial- in which case they were slaughtered when they tried to escape.

Ceasar did it against Pompey at Alesia in 49BC and the legions repeated the tactic against Masada in 73AD.

In modern times the Germans did it against Leningrad in WWII... that seige lasted 872 days [almost 2-1/2 years]. During that time, Leningrad's citizens resorted to cannabilism as a last-ditch food source.

These were all just variations on today's more sanitized "Sanctions"; because today a seige is commonly classified as a "Genocide".

Apples and oranges. Sanctions don't mean war is imminent or occuring like a siege did. We've been sanctioning people for decades and still nothing. And if you must know I got an "A" in just about every history class I ever took. Maybe I should have been a historian and not a scientist. I actually did better in all my history classes.

You talk as if President Trump INVENTED sanctions. In reality the U.S. has used them all the way back to George Washington... they are simply disguised under many different names such as a siege, an embargo, a tariff, a quota, an assets-seizure, blockades and even boycotts. Here are just a few from our own past:

G. Washington - Boston, 1775
T. Jefferson - France/England, 1807
FDR - Japan, 1940 [this oil-embargo is what actually caused Pearl Harbor]
Eisenhower - N Korea, 1950 and Cuba, 1958 [elements of BOTH of those sanctions are STILL in effect today!]
JFK - Cuba, 1962 [this REALLY escalated the Cuban Missle Crisis and nearly caused WWIII]
G. Ford - Iran, 1979
Reagan - China, 1989 [Tiananman Square]
Bill Clinton - Sudan, 1997

And there are many, many more.

And for those who think they DON'T work? Take a look at Venezuela where Obama-imposed sanctions took effect in 2015 and people are currently starving to death there today. Human-rights activists rightfully call that one "genocide" - that nation's economy is totally destroyed.
Yet, you call such actions "pussified?"

And yet -like the poster to whom I responded- you know SO little... Example: Rome's siege of Masada was NOT from a war - they did it just to prove to the world that they COULD, and FDR's Japan oil embargos led DIRECTLY to Pearl Harbor. "Apples and Oranges" my Ass!


SEE: ABOVE for a very SHORT list of sanctions that historically HAVE worked and still do today. Better yet, ask anyone with relatives in Caracas and see what THEY tell you about how effective sanctions can be.

BTW: if you lived during the Cuban Missle Crisis -as I did- you'd also know we were THISCLOSE to nuclear war and it was Kennedy's naval blockade [aka "sanction"] that lit that fuse!!

He's right. Too many factors to risk war. Elections is another one. But, a war with Iran is not like taking over Iraq. Major risks are involved. If the Saudi's want to put a stick in the hornets nest, let them go for it. But, don't drag the US into it.

Soon, it will be announced that Yemen rebels were behind the attack, using Iranian MT [military tech]... ...a proxy war.
