Scriptures and prayers for a dying friend?
When a loved one faces death, are there any scriptures that you use to comfort/ bless their departing? This old bastard is one of the early boomers. He's around 82 and is a true boomer stereotype, some may even call him a wild man. Doing the rounds, visiting people in the neighborhood, seeing if there are any BAR B Q's or a spare beer. Calling me at 6:00AM to go rake up clumps of grass on his lawn.

Its not sure he's going to kick the bucket, but he's diabetic (doesn't stop him from eating his favorite food: pie), and suffered a heart attack/ seizure. He's a "Christian", but im a little worried for him. I will put it to you this way, when/if he goes to heaven they may ask him to go on "time out" for a little while.

So that's why im asking for prayers and scriptures for this boomer! These boomers that turned their backs on God act like they will live for ever. The guy could still easily pack away a pound of beacon for breakfast! Many wait until the eleventh hour to seek God and repent, but they die at 10:45. Hopefully he has made peace with his Creator, we shall see. Ordinarily the end of Revelation that describes Heaven is what I go too, but for sure the bible is teeming with appropriate scripture!

Revelation 21:4 King James Version (KJV)

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Whatever you choose, its potency may be according to how much you continually repeat it, because otherwise the mind and heart goes to other things. So if you choose a prayer, maybe say it eleven or a hundred times depending on your desire.

Yes, do you have any in mind? Lords prayer is one of those!

Matthew 6:9-13 King James Version (KJV)

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

If inclined to Christ, I'd prefer the Christ prayer, or even just saying the name in some form, but a version of the Christ prayer is, Jesus Christ, have mercy upon me, or in this case, have mercy upon him, indicating the man's name at some point.

I'd rather use Sanskrit - there is a Sanskrit mantra to Christ: Om Shri Yeshu Bhagavate Namaha

Psalm 23 is of comfort:

1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Thank you! How do people face death without God? In my youth I feared death, when I came to believe it went away....

Re: Scriptures and prayers for a dying friend?
there is a time when we all walk through that valley..say this prayer pray it for your friend and during their transcending to the spirit world

it seems as though we are alone at that time when in fact we are just about to come into the light

it's darkest before the dawn

Revelation and scripture are sorta heavy for someone in a delicate state, don’t want to scare him, it’s painless wonderful thing to not be scared of, love is what he needs not verse methinks

Re: Scriptures and prayers for a dying friend?
First of all, has he accepted Jesus' savrifice for him?

Has he repented of his sins?

Has he forgiven everyone in his life for any transgressions?

If not, he is in very huge spiritual trouble.

Meanwhile, have you been reading him the NT?

Have you offered to hear his confessions?

Have you laid your hands on him and prayed for him...his healing and his salvation, in the name of Jesus, through the Holy Spirit?

While you both get to work, you certainly have my prayers. May God guide you both.

Re: Scriptures and prayers for a dying friend?
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb?

9 When I made the cloud the garment thereof, and thick darkness a swaddlingband for it,

10 And brake up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors,

11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed?

12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; and caused the dayspring to know his place;

13 That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

Re: Scriptures and prayers for a dying friend?
I hate to say this but if he is stuffing pies in his face to the point he is dying, a) he has a demon killing him and b) its a sin of Gluttony as people are dying of starvation.

If he can, watch some life after death experiences and out of body experiences on y-tube. There is a crusade underway.

Its all real, all of it, but, he doesn't want to be stuffed into a doorless cell in Purgatory. He needs to make a list of his sins, introduce himself to Jesus, say that he is sorry (and mean it) and promise to do these things no more. Jesus will spare him until judgement day where he will get a second chance. This is called "getting your name entered into the book of life." Nothing worse than dying then finding out its all real and Jesus says to you, "I dont know you, beat it"....

and those who do not repent may not get a second chance.

Philippians 3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Dear Heavenly Father , we ask You be with this man and he have his heart right with You , remove anything age has done to the mind not of You , guide and protect his journey , bless the loved ones in Jesus name amen
