Here's a particularly forlorn historical date: Almost 90 years ago, between the 19th and 20th of December 1917, in the midst of the Bolshevik revolution and civil war, Lenin signed a decree calling for the establishment of The All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counter-Revolution and Sabotage, also known as Cheka.

Within a short period of time, Cheka became the largest and cruelest state security organization. Its organizational structure was changed every few years, as were its names: From Cheka to GPU, later to NKVD, and later to KGB.

We cannot know with certainty the number of deaths Cheka was responsible for in its various manifestations, but the number is surely at least 20 million, including victims of the forced collectivization, the hunger, large purges, expulsions, banishments, executions, and mass death at Gulags.

Whole population strata were eliminated: Independent farmers, ethnic minorities, members of the bourgeoisie, senior officers, intellectuals, artists, labor movement activists, "opposition members" who were defined completely randomly, and countless members of the Communist party itself.

In his new, highly praised book "The War of the World, "Historian Niall Ferguson writes that no revolution in the history of mankind devoured its children with the same unrestrained appetite as did the Soviet revolution. In his book on the Stalinist purges, Tel Aviv University's Dr. Igal Halfin writes that Stalinist violence was unique in that it was directed internally.

Lenin, Stalin, and their successors could not have carried out their deeds without wide-scale cooperation of disciplined "terror officials," cruel interrogators, snitches, executioners, guards, judges, perverts, and many bleeding hearts who were members of the progressive Western Left and were deceived by the Soviet regime of horror and even provided it with a kosher certificate.

It happened, I know plenty of friends and even family who were born in the late 30s and did not entirely witness the war but damn well remember how family members didn't return home. Where did they go? Nazi Germany conquered let's say 60% of Europe. In almost every country they occupied they took away people heading straight to the chambers.

How many families lived in Europe that were, to a certain extent, Jewish? A lot. I bet over six million Jewish families lived in Europe in 1939. If every family lost 1 family member, which is far from realistic since whole families disappeared, then you can understand 6 million may even be a conservative estimate.

Poland is quite certain that 6 million civilians were murdered by the Nazis from 1939 to 1945: 3 million Jews and 3 million Gentiles. Similarly, other European countries together also count roughly 6 million murdered civilians: again, split about 50-50 between Jews and Gentiles.

There is no doubt that 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis. What people often forget is that the Nazis murdered 6 million Gentile civilians as well. Or put another way, the Nazis murdered 6 million Polish citizens, and 6 million citizens of other European countries.

One can legitimately debate how many of these 12 million murdered civilians were gassed, vs. shot or killed in other ways. But the 'how' is really irrelevant.

And let us not forget that the aggressor in a war is fully responsible for the death of every soldier in that war, on every side. All those soldiers were effectively murdered by the aggressor, just as if he had gassed them himself. I mean this is a legitimate question, isn't it? Seventy years ago if you wanted to gas people you stuck them in a room, fifty years later you need a bathosphere, what happened? Did we misplace the technology?

I have a lot of questions, not the least of which is how on earth do you expect me to believe something so patently absurd as the story about filling big empty warehouse rooms full of people and dropping gas through a hole in the cieling and being six million times more effective than a modern day one person chamber.

I don't know what the real story is, but I'm interested and if you could do better than repeateing that tired old 6 million mantra as if you were reciting the rosary, you'd go a long way to convincing me that such an event occured, but it never happens, people just start getting emotional and using testimony of "survivors" that the official story is immutable.

The "revisionist" story doesn't add up how survivors all told similar stories of horrors in concentration camps. Where are all the people killed? Where did they went? It's not disputed in Europe at least 20 million civillians died in WW2. I'm very sure many dead haven't been found yet. Is that so strange?

Because many regiments of soldiers killed in the trenches haven't been found, does that mean they never existed in the first place? If so, that would be a very weak argument. A fallacy I'd say. Here's a pic from Auschwitz entitled "Nazi gas chamber", who puts windows on a gas chamber? How's that "airtight" and what has hygiene got to do with the discussion? If your object is to gas someone, you need to think about getting them in and out and without a system to seal the gasses in (no windows is a good first step) and vent the gasses out (blowers of some sort) it's not going to be very efficient, non?

No one is seeking hundreds of millions of dollars from people who weren't even born when that war took place for the soldiers who were killed in it. We lost a family member who died fighting the Germans and he never came home, much to my familie's chagrin and disappointment, but none of us ever expected a payment from the German people for that loss. We took it and moved on, like the millions of others who died needlessly in that war.
