I don't know much about economics, but i am concerned about recent events. Could someone with an economics background or better understanding address these three queries? Quoting: CyberRBT
I don't have an economics background, but then neither do our top economists of the day, or we wouldn't be in such deep doodoo, now would we?
Today, the private bankers of the Federal Reserve 'injected' another 3.5b into our financial system. When the Fed injects $97.5b of reserve supply into our system as it has over the past 10 days, of course, it calms turmoil on Wall Street and eases strains on credit. However, it seems to me for instance, if you double the amount of money available to the economy your money will inevitably lose half of its value. Is this correct?
I read somewhere a while back that the dollar today is worth 4 cents compared to its value when the Federal Reserve started controlling it in 1913. I've also read that official government accounting stopped including energy and food costs in calculating inflation. Are these two statements true? If so, why? Quoting: CyberRBT
Great, so our dollar is now worth 2 cents. BTW, govt accounting = lies. Honestly, the Fed is hoping you won't notice any of this stuff.
Finally, won't these Fed actions precipitate a seller's denial phase and a sucker's market rally followed by a large percentage correction?
It seems to me these are common sense questions. But as a layman, am i over-simplifying complex economic models? Quoting: CyberRBT

'Frozen Smoke' is created by extracting the water from a silica gel and replacing it with a gas like CO2. It’s the lightest solid material known to man and does all sorts of amazing things- it’s the best known insulator around and will be used in the next gen NASA space suits; an uber armor, capable to absorbing an explosive charge; and most exciting for greenies it acts like a super sponge and will be used to clean up pollution from the air, ground, and water.
Frozen Smoke is basically the next big miracle material. It will eventually go into everything from sleeping bags to tennis rackets to cars to cellphones to paintball masks. It could have a profound impact on the environment and world at large if it finds its way into the right smart entrepreneurs and engineers.

TULUM, Mexico - The heart of Maya culture was in Dean's path on Monday — dozens of historical sites including the stunning seaside ruins of Tulum and a temple where oppressed Mayas said they found divine inspiration for a 19th-century uprising.

Government anthropologists said they were preparing 13 archaeological sites for the storm, shooing away tourists, pruning trees and removing signs and vegetation that strong winds could turn into damaging projectiles.
Also vulnerable is the 2.5 million-acre Sian Kaan nature reserve, which includes remnants of a canal network used by oceangoing Mayan traders 1,200 years ago.
The army sent 3,900 troops to Quintana Roo state, which includes the coastal resorts of the Riviera Maya. Hundreds of tourists were evacuated. Many at the southern tip of Mexico's coast were being taken to the farming town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, where dozens of buses were lined up to handle evacuees.
Felipe Carrillo Puerto is home to the Temple of the Talking Cross, where Mayan rebels kept a cross that they believe spoke to them, encouraging an uprising against colonizers in the 1850s. The Maya held the city for 51 years until Mexican government troops retook it in 1901.

Perched at the top of a 39-foot rocky cliff, the 800-year-old main temple at Tulum will probably escape the brunt of the waves. And these structures, built with solid rock, have withstood many tropical storms over the centuries.
Still, the storm surge could easily enter through a break in the cliff and flood other structures, covering fragments of hand-painted murals with sea water, said Carlos Esperon, the assistant head of the National Anthropological Institute in Quintana Roo.

‘No Danger’ of Collapse at Deutsche Bank Fire, Mayor Says; 2 Firefighters Are Dead
By Ray Rivera
Updated, 11:15 p.m. | Two firefighters are dead from injuries they sustained fighting a fire at the vacant Deutsche Bank building at 130 Liberty Street opposite ground zero today, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg confirmed at a news conference this evening. Mr. Bloomberg said there was “no danger” that the building would collapse and preliminary tests showed no environmental hazards.
He identified one of the dead as Firefighter Joseph Graffagnino, 34, of Brooklyn, who had with the department for eight years. The other firefighter was subsequently identified as Robert Beddia, 53, of Staten Island. The two firefighter fatalities were 34-year-old Joseph Graffagnino and 56-year-old Robert Beddia. The pair were killed on the 14th floor of the building as they were overcome by choking smoke after a source said the oxygen in their tanks was depleted. The smoke inhalation sent the men into cardiac arrest. Beddia had been with the FDNY for 23 years and was the most experienced firefighter on the scene. The Phoenix
a.k.a. "The Bennu".
Known as a popular symbol of Resurrection, the Phoenix is embraced by those who have been purified in the fire of life, scorched to mere ashes, and yet, born anew, they rise to pursue life with a renewed vigor and fresh perspective. They now carry the knowledge in their heart of their true nature, and an appreciation for the finer qualities in life.
The 5000 year old Egyptian heiroglyph used in our pendant is known as "Bennu", and is the forerunner of the Greek myth of the Phoenix. In Greek literature, Herodotus tells of a bird who, every 500 years, senses its own impending death, and builds a funeral pyre of scented herbs. Sitting upon the pyre, the Phoenix sings the sweetest five note song imaginable, whereby the Sun rises, its rays ignite the pyre, and the bird is engulfed in flames and reduced to ashes. Out of the ashes comes a baby bird that gathers the previous remains in a ball of sweet smelling myhrr and flies to Heliopolis to bury the ashes of the last incarnation in the temple.
When you've gone through changes as dramatic as the Bennu, and have rebuild upon the ashes of a burnout situation, the phoenix is a totem of hope and achievement.

Damage is estimated at over $1 million from a fire at a rooming house and apartment block at 703 Westminster Ave. early this morning.
The Winnipeg Fire Department said residents of the block were evacuated during the fire but there were no injuries.
The fire was reported shortly after 2 a.m. and firefighters arrived on the scene, near the intersection of Sherbrook Street, to find the roof and rear of the house on fire.
Winnipeg Police closed off portions of Westminster, Sherbrook and Maryland Street during the fire.
The fire was extinguished at about 4 a.m. and nearby streets were re-opened to traffic an hour later.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. |
