Survival checklist threads are for idiots!!!!!!! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 278863 United States 08/07/2007 01:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ever notice amongst many message boards there are always some wannabes posting a checklist of supplies they will need or stock up on in some sort of cataclysm?? This is just people who have wish lists, and do not really reflect people who are actually prepared. Quoting: Gravy Train 276645The people who are prepared do not come on the internet and boast about their list. It is like on auto forums where someone creates a list of all the goodies they have on their car, or all the stuff that they would put together to make the most awesome car ever. It is all bullshit nonsense. Armchair survivalists!!! Most people in a survival situation would probably not know what to do because "the man" would come at gunpoint and take them away, leaving behind their precious supplies of beans and water purifiers. You survival check listers would not even survive without the internet. Someone doesn't have any survival equipment. |

Better to have a cyanide pill in that film can. You see last nights' documentary on the Atomic bombing of Japan? After an atomic bomb or other horror, I do not even want to survive. Now, if you got the hots to survive in the hell on earth that is left after a catastropic event... well, thats your choice. |

Quoting: Junior Warlord 81537Your in over your head junior. Nobody is stealing anything from anybody. Anybody who has any sense knows that the best thing that theycan do is educate themselves. Learn how to find water, and make it potable. How to find food and what is edible and what isn't. Learn to make tools, build homes, and other structures to me our needs. We need to learn how to make fire from what we have around us. Then if youwant to, stock up on some basic tools that might be useful under a variety of circumstances: Knife Sharpening stone high capacity water filter flint and steel mischmetal firestarter and a well thought out first aid kit. I've got this and more in a small bugout bag with room to spare. It's versatile, easily portable and defensible. And none of it except the water filter looks like anything special. |

Quoting: a passing cloudbingo Date: Sat, 10 Jan 1998 Note from Bob: Ladies and gentlemen, please read this carefully and thoroughly. This is not the figment of a fertile imagination. It is a devious plan by many previous administrations to replace America's sovereignty with despotism. It is TRUE. Some people have referred to it as the "secret government" of the United States. It is not an elected body, it does not involve itself in public disclosures, and it even has a quasi-secret budget in the hundreds of billions of dollars. This government organization has more power than the President of the United States or the Congress, more power than "the people", it has the power to suspend laws, move entire populations, arrest and detain citizens without a warrant and hold them without trial, it can seize property, food supplies, transportation systems, and can suspend the Constitution. Since 95 percent of the population has little to no supplies at all (even in the face of an impending threat like a hurricane), the fed government is REALLY going to bother going door to door just to confirm that no one has jack. Where exactly would someone be "better off" during a protracted crisis? No reason to move anyone unless you've got someplace better to put 'em. |

Very few things from civilization such as a knife are worth gathering. The rest either runs short fast or depends on a supply chain to maintain in the long term. I am what I read. |

At lunch, he stopped at our local big bookstore and bought me...a book. Isn't he just the sweetest? LOL! Such a romantic! It wasn't a book of poetry. It was even better. It was the "ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING ... GROW MORE IN LESS SPACE" book by Mel Bartholomew. Hubby called me during his mid-afternoon break..."Oh, you are gonna LOVE this book." By the time he got it home, he'd already read quite a bit of it (shhhh...don't tell...it was a slow day at work). It's WONDERFUL!!! It's going to be my effort towards as much self-sufficiency as I can have in a suburban setting.
