Rocketrod User ID: 280851 (OP) 8/11/2007 6:51 AM | | Re: Short Film:Using Acetone to Double Gas Mileage | Quote | Mythbusters.Postman what a joke. All they are are are knee jerk debunkers with a twisted and non egalatarian attitude like yourself.
Fact for over 3 years my Saab turbo 95 burning acetone at these tiny ratios increased my mileage from 11 litres/100 km to average 5.8 litres per 100 km.On board computer verification.I buy acetone in a PLASTIC 1 litre bottle and my vehicle is serviced at factory recommended intervals by City Saab.Never had fuel component failures.in fact using synthetic oil at 5000 km oil change intervals,I change the oil;the old oil is cleaner and lighter in colour than prior to using acetone.More efficient combustion.
Acetone improves the combustibility of petrol. In this time I have recommended to other motorists I know. Most either disbelieved me or never bothered. The few that did reported similar fuel consumption reductions to mine, and continue using acetone.I have pointedly asked them has the additive caused any reliability problems re before and after.None!
I posted a thread over 2 years ago at GLP re acetone as fuel additive saves 40%.I think it attracted about 30+ pages of responses. Many GLPrs tried this and achieved similar fuel savings verified by their reports.Typically that thread had it's share of knee jerk ignorant trolls who like nothing better than to debunk to brighten their miserable lives;had never in one instance substantiated their criticism.I speculate that GLP attracts government/industry pundits who fit the afore mentioned description.Put up or shut up.
If this information can save motorists a few thousand dollars a year I consider it a community service as well as an environmental service. |

 | | Re: Short Film:Using Acetone to Double Gas Mileage | Quote | I've used the acetone and gotten a 20% improvement in mileage in my V6 200HP engine(Ford van). The Ford had over 100,000 miles on it when I started using the acetone. May have gotten better improvement if the vehicle were newer, but it still saves money. No problems with seals or gaskets leaking or disolving, and it seems to have cleaned up my emissions, as I passed my California smog test with flying colors, whereas the previous test I flunked and had to do expensive repairs to get it to barely pass. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1294 8/11/2007 8:30 AM | | Re: Short Film:Using Acetone to Double Gas Mileage | Quote | just make sure to add it at the gas station before you put the fuel in, otherwise it will sit in concentrated form at the top of the gas tank and could cause future problems. It will be diluted just fine if you put it in before you gas up. |

OP told you - 2oz/10gall - I presume that's US gal.
Be it on your own head though if you want to try it.
Best way to conserve fuel is to drive carefully. I've reduced my milage from 8.2l/100km showing when I bought the car to 6.9l/100km (41 miles per imperial gallon) |

Sorry Doc. This statement makes Mythbusters BS:
>>>Great Gas Conspiracy
Myth: Automakers and fuel suppliers are in collusion to keep us dependent on expensive gasoline and inefficient cars. There are many devices that one can use to cut your fuel consumption.<<<<
I'll never beleive another word they say. I wonder which oilman owns Mythbusters.
Greedy oil fucks keep us dependant - fact.
They have enough money to protect their position - fact. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 226286 8/11/2007 9:25 AM | | Re: Short Film:Using Acetone to Double Gas Mileage | Quote | There are shills on here who get paid very handsomely to deceitfully debunk, cause aggro and lie through their teeth (if they have any)...
The fact that they spout their crap with no substantiated evidence to back it up proves well beyond a reasonable doubt that there is substance to what the OP is saying.
Does anyone know if the Acetone will have the same results in a Diesel powered vehicle?
Thanks OP for sharing with us. |

I mean get a grip, two ounces on 10 gallons won't dissolve any plastic, a much higher percentage of acetone is in many nail polish removers and ever heard that their plastic bottles vanished, pffff?
Those senseless expert critics are responsible that nothing moves on on this sorry planet but you will get your pay one day, even if it takes centuries.
I know I am doing but I am fed up with those ever repeating deliberately discouraging responses, really. |

Acetone can be used to weld ~some~ plasics (notably PVC) and neat acetone spilled on your new paintjob won't do it any good.
If you're sure of the risks and confident you know what you are doing go ahead and try it. No one's stopping you.
Finally, for anyone interested in the subject [link to www.fuelsaving.info] |

Yeah but only if UNDILUTED, can you get that?
Two ounces on 10 gallons means 1/800, that's 1.25 tenths of a percent.
We would all die if it was so dangerous like you claim:
" In addition to being manufactured as a chemical, acetone is also found naturally in the environment, including in small amounts in the human body. "

Yep, sure can - can you get the meaning of the word 'neat'?
If you want to risk putting neat undiluted acetone into your tank before you fill up then go ahead. It ain't my fucking car. |

Man nice conditioning job, as if it were impossible to mix it into an amount of fuel outside and then fill in. |

Look, for all I care you can put any hydrocarbon or alchohol in your tank (including sugar). So far the arguements I've seen - and I've seen a few - haven't convinced me they do much, if any, good. |

Sugar lol, nice try again, but well we have heard that you won't try it out cause you're afraid it could hurt your beloved auto so give it a rest, you must not repeat it endlessly. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 215528 8/11/2007 10:35 AM | | Re: Short Film:Using Acetone to Double Gas Mileage | Quote | it worked for me in my 98 Durango
went from 15 miles/gallon to 18
not a HUGE jump
but on longer trips, which i only ever got 15 no matter what i did (or less in the winter in snow)
i got 20
to be honest, the improvement wasn't enough to deal with the hassle of using it
haven't tried it on my newer 05 Tacoma
been waiting to have a good 'baseline' first
will report back someday

Wow must be nice. My 2002 Durango get 9miles per gallon on the highway anf 6miles per gallon in town.
%.9 litre 360 pig.
P.S. I tried acetone in my 2004 Dodge Hemi 5.7 litre Ram 1500 and my truck went from 17miles per gallon to 14miles per gallon.
I got a bottle of acetone in my garage if anyone wants it. |

The only thing that works is getting a smaller vehicle. The theories about the "fish" carburetor and such have been around long before these little asswipes were ever a gleam in their daddies eye. There is no miracle cure. |
