Re: Foursquare Church- Is it a cult?
Four square church is most definately a CULT! BEWARE of their CARTOON ANTICS in order to convince people to join thier so called family of faith. The only faith they convice you of is in themselves. One is not ALLOWED to LOVE anyone OUTSIDE OF THE CULT! You MUST give up any family and friends you have, in order to be ACCEPTED into the PURITY of the four square family, otherwise your not PURE enough for their standards. Once you are deemed acceptable, you have obviously become a chronic lier to yourself and the world in order to believe that you love GOD, and need only to be FAITHFUL in SUPPORTING THE FAMILY. That must be why they go after young, nieve, yet successful and ambicious members so they can count on financial support. GOD BE WITH YOU, should you get drawn in by thier fake faith and lies in the name of religion. If you are involved with the four square, I pry for you, and don not forget, even though you are LIVING A LIE, GOD KNOWS YOU, FORGIVES, AND TRULY LOVE YOU!
 Quoting: PRAYING FOR YOU 21792661

No it is not.
Protestant watch dog groups do not consider them a cult.

I have attended many Four square churches and have had friends that are/were Four square church members, and my wife is a former four square church member.
So I would know.
It is deeply into Tradition, much more than some other churches are, but that does not make them a cult.

Re: Foursquare Church- Is it a cult?
Go to a Foursquare. Maybe a few times. It is not a cult. It is lined up with scripture more so than other main stream churches. I really think you should not have judgement until you have more understanding of God. Then you will be able to answer the question, "Is the Foursquare Church a cult or whatever else. God bless you.

I dated a girl who left it. They are a cult rapped in a Christian wrapper. So a cult rapped in a cult.

Sexual abuse of girls in the church is rampant, but in an indirect way. It is a kin to finding young girls of simple origins to be pimped out. The parents look away because they are blinded by the born again angle of the church.

Aimee McPhee used the church to gain status amongst the elites. You do the logic.

Re: Foursquare Church- Is it a cult?
Just a change up from all the previous discussion:
My daughter 'converted' to the 4square church where her Father and Mother –in- laws were both pastors. They talk about the man being the provider for the family, but her husband can't hold a job for more than a few months. On the side he’s a permanent student who is always ‘just ready to graduate’. She works hard and still makes time for her kids.
But the worst part of this 'church' is their cover-up of abuse. My grandson (at 8 years) went missing during a service and my son-in-law (jobless guy) found him in the back of the church (boarded up windows and all), with his pants around his ankles and a 15 year old guy starting to play w/ my grandsons privates. My daughter called us a few hours after he services and told us what had happened, and wanted to know what we thought she should do. My wife(not my daughter’s mother), being a mandatory reporter (she’s a nurse) , told her she had to report it to the authorities. She thought that was a good idea (at the time). Later that evening, my wife got a call from the mother-in-law pastor, demanding that we keep our nose out of ‘church’ business. After a long and heated discussion, the mother-in-law hung up on my wife. My daughter called back a bit later, and after talking to my wife, said ‘for the good of the congregation’ she wasn’t going to report it. My wife then told her either my daughter had to report it or she (my wife) would have to. After more ugly discussions, she promised to take my grandson to their primary care provider, who promptly sent them (daughter, son-in-law, and grandson), to the area child abuse facility at a local hospital. They went once and never went back.
Since then she’s been cold to us (and me in particular) and her in-laws treat us like crap. She accuses us of treating the grandson different than the other grand kids (not true). For such a ‘forgiving’ and ‘salvation’ oriented church they sure seem to miss the main point: Their child was sexually abused and the church covered it up for the ‘sake of the congregation’. What about the poor kid ?
My vote - CULT

Abuse can happen anywhere, at the store, at the movies anywhere in society.
So get over it. They were wrong but hold no more Guilt of being a cult that if it happened in a movie theater or a Kid themed Pizza parlor.
I will guarantee neither of them would want it to hurt their reputations either. They would also like things like that "to just go away".

Re: Foursquare Church- Is it a cult?
My buddy invited me to attend his church this morning. It is a Foursquare Church. Wonder if anyone knows if this is a cult of some kind....
It was started by a woman named Aimee Semple McPherson back in 1928.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 266073

Foursquare is not a cult, but Aimee certainly had a colorful past.

The title "International Church of the Foursquare Gospel" was created out of a passage in the book of Ezekiel chapter one where it spoke of a four headed creature (lion, man, ox, eagle). This then developed into a four part theology where Jesus is viewed as the Savior, the Healer, the Baptizer in the Holy Spirit, and the Soon-and-coming King.

Aimee was not perfect in any means. I am getting ready to graduate from the Foursquare Bible College and learning about her life almost caused me to leave the denomination. She had some quirks and made some TERRIBLE decisions, but also did some pretty incredible things. Aimee (no, I do not call her "Sister Aimee" - only old people still do that) was the first woman in the world to own her own radio station, and was an extremely public figure in the 20s. I've never heard or read anything about her believing she was the reincarnation of Mary Magdalene or that Jesus was ever married to Mary Magdalene. I am not one who is totally committed to Foursquare but I also don't think it is terrible either.

The trend in Foursquare students is moving away from what I would call "Aimee worship" and towards true ministry. The denomination honestly functions much more like an organization than a denomination.

To view Foursquare's Statement of Faith and the scriptural backing behind it, click this link: [link to www.foursquare.org]

Hope this helped.

I grew up in the church and went to the foursquare Bible college. Not a cult but ok I stopped going .
Had many great memory's there from my teenage years .
One thing that was strange was the day I started going to the college one of the student advisers took me to Amy's ( the founder ) grave to have lunch . It kinda creep-ed me out .

No but the clothes they wear are pretty boring.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 375064

That's funny, I attend a Foursquare church and I show up on Sunday wearing shorts and flip-flops.

I've been going there for a while. I've never been asked to become a "member." I don't know anybody that is a one.

I've been a Christian my whole life and I don't go in for the charismatic hype. This is an orthodox Christian denomination.

If your familiar with Jack Hayford, then you know what I'm talking about. If not, google a video or two to check him out. If you like what you see, then give the church a try.

What everyone should remember is that these people are not Jesus Christ. They are not God. Look at Jesus. Focus on Jesus and His teachings. Be a Berean. Search the truth for yourself. When people market Christ or market the gospel, they get greedy and lead people astray. The Bible is filled with stories of people who did not glorify the Lord. Sadly "Christendom" is filled with heretics leading people astray and teaching error. Use your discernment; pray for the power of the Spirit so that you can discern what the Truth is as you read the Scriptures.

Its all Churchianity....

After the revial (The Jesus Movement) all those kids, lost their first love and got indoctrinated into doing, instead of being...

Went from a life called Chrsitianity, to a dead system called churchianity.

church is dead. The church is alive, the ecklesia...God puts YOU into the Spirit of Christ. Only God knows who is a member of the church / ecklesia / His body.

all the church attendence stuff is a life robbing mess. Its anti-Christ...

Re: Foursquare Church- Is it a cult?
It is nowhere near a cult. For those of you who say it is why don't you read it's "what we believe" statements. It is theologically the same as Assembles of God which is a well known denomination. I am a Foursquare Pastor and have worked with Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian,Assemblies of God, Non-denominational and Lutheran Churches. Get your info rightbefore you post remarks.
 Quoting: prsteve 1004138

Why are you working with false Christians if you're not a bad church? Methodists and in general, Lutherans, are Arminians, and they preach a false "you can lose the salvation Jesus gave you" gospel which is an evil blasphemous and futile gospel of despair. How many false Christians who believed in that hopeless "rely on you" gospel have fallen away? Countless ones have.

This is the truth gospel [link to thegospel.tk]

I'm part of a 4Square church and have not seen any of the strange behavior described by some people here, like rolling on the floor and making animal noises. In fact, nobody publicly speaks in tongues at this church. What I have seen, though, is something that's common in American churches: snobbery, even among some of this church's leaders. In my opinion, they love their middle-class, comfortable lifestyle a little too much. The Bible never teaches that Jesus came to make good people better, but I've seen so many people (not just in Foursquare) who act as if they believe He did come for that reason. It's an American problem, not a Foursquare-only problem.

Re: Foursquare Church- Is it a cult?
I believe it is cultish i dated a guy that his family was huge into the foursquare church. His mother and father are personal friends of jack hayford. His parents met in the foursquare church. And his moms great aunt was a huge pastor/ evangelist in the foursquare church. Little did i know what i was getting myself into. First off his dad can not hold a job at all, and the mother had to support the whole family with her job answering phones all day. I don't care if you have to flip burgers you can take a lesser paying job to make ends meet. But they always believed God was going to provide for them. They were reviewed for foreclosure twice.
My ex boyfriend as well could not hold a job as well. He was always working temp jobs and he is 25 yrs old.He is also in the military bc he said it paid for his college. Yet he hasn't been enrolled in college since he joined. He wants to be a foursquare chaplain and minister eventually. The big event that made the crap hit the fan was we had messed up ..we hadn't planned it.. we genuinely messed up. We went to his pastor and asked for his counsel. He told us that if we couldn't resist the temptation that we just needed to get married. Well his parents ended up finding out. And less than two weeks the whole relationship goes to hell. We are talking 10 month relationship getting engaged when he got back from his deployment...
He took me to a public place and told me he had a porn addiction (which i knew about) and had to work on his relationship with Christ and that i was to much of a temptation. He said he heard from his mentor the relationship had to end. Funny thing was less than six days after ending a very serious relationship ..he was back on cm where we met.Updated his whole entire profile and was pursuing new relationships. I'm sorry but if you have an addiction that bad to porn..what are you doing on a dating site? Especially when you said it had to only be you and God right now? When i confronted him on it all. Genuinely expressing my concern, and how he needs to get ahold of his life and turn it around. How a "true man of God" wouldn't have behaved the way that he did. He told me to "Be careful of how I pray, God does not take kindly to us inserting our will into his, so in the end I pray God blesses your future wherever it takes you goodbye." He also stole my dog out of my house while i was in the emergency room for a serious migraine and took it to his parents house an hour and a half away bc his room mate wouldn't let him have it.
Let me clarify we had adopted this dog together...which i would never do again.I learned my lesson, but It lived with me the whole entire time i paid for everything and i got him bc i wanted my little dog to have a playmate....I paid for the pet deposit everything.. But he felt like it was his dog. When i told his parents and him that they could give me the dog back or i was going to file a police report and take him to small claims. They made a big ordeal about how they had merit in pursuing possession of my dog,but they were willing to come to an amicable agreement. The agreement was that i would not communicate with anyone in his family or him ever again and that i would not pursue the cost of the dog past present or future....sounds like his parents were trying to save their reputation and cover up their tracks. There are many many more things that i saw in that church but won't go into detail.

The only thing that's unscriptural is this website. Except for the fact that it's creator is in league with "The accuser of the brethren." (Rev. 12:10). I'm curious to know how many ppl you have led to the Lord this year. You might do better by witnessing to someone rather than wasting your time with ridiculous accusations about the Body of Christ!! Re: Foursquare Church- Is it a cult?
If foursquare is a cult then also are the Assembly of God Churches. (The largest church in the world is Assemblies of God.) Their doctrines are the same. In fact if Foursquare is a cult then so is every other Pentecostal church. King David was guilty of adultery and murderer. Does that make his faith a cult? Can you say the transgressions of Foursquare's founder are worse than Kind David's? The only judge of what constitutes a cult can be the Bible. It is not if you agree with them or not, its if the Bible agrees. If not being in the majority constitutes a cult then Jeremiah himself was a cult. And do you realize the early church(which came into being on the day of Pentecost after Christ's death, resurrection and return to heaven) was called a cult?

Be careful what you say. Be sure your conclusions rest solidly on scripture. Or you may find yourself holding incorrect ideas.
