Turbine Tower Collapses at Oregon Wind Farm; Kills One | |

Wow! Maybe the construction process was incomplete? Or else it's scary to think that these things could snap in half like a matchstick. I've seen quite a few pictures of these things sticking straight up out of the earth or ocean, but this is the only incidence of one breaking in half I've heard of, so it must be a construction mistake. |

Ever been close to one? There's a wind farm not far outside San Angelo, TX; we stopped along the road at night to give a listen. Couldn't see a danged thing, but the SOUND was amazing. Every now and then, you'll see one of those columns in sections on the backs of big trailer flatbeds here on IH-35E. HUGE things! |

Yeah, a few weeks back there was a train pulling flatbeds with a bunch of those turbines on them. And the blades... geez, they were MONSTROUS big. Must've been 40-50 of them heading northeast across Indiana. I was driving parallel to the tracks trying to take pics with my cellphone. |

Thats funny jackass, I suggest you dangle off the side of one of these and see if that's your sense of humor dripping down your leg. |
