The "sons of God" had sex with the "daughters of men" and produced the Nephilim as offspring. The sons of God were fallen angels who have the abibility to appear as ordinary men. The bible states that some people have entertained angels unawares (Hebrews 13:2). That could only mean that they can take on different forms. Therefore I contend that they did just that and took wives for themselves just as stated in Genisis 6. However, the offspring Nephilim might not have had that ability and perhaps could only mate with others of their own kind or size.

The sons of God who came and mated with human women were not giants. They had incredible sexual capacity far exceeding that of a human male. My opinion is that human men felt extremely threatened by these other men and created a pr smear campaign describing their children as man eating monsters in order to justify a genocide on them and their descendants.
