Can We Trust The Bible? Startling Archeological Discoveries Confirm The Truth Of The Word Of God
Startling Archeological Discoveries
by Grant R. Jeffrey

Can we trust the Bible? The answer is an overwhelming YES! The reason for this confident statement is that for the past one hundred and fifty years many brilliant scholars have conducted detailed archeological examinations at thousands of sites throughout the Middle East. The results of their discoveries have proven that the Bible is reliable and accurate in every single area where its statements could be tested. In the balance of this chapter I will share some of the wonderful archeological discoveries that provide tremendous proof that the Bible is a true and accurate record of past events in ancient Israel.

Throughout most of the last two thousand years, the majority of men living in the western world have accepted the statements of the Scriptures as genuine. However, beginning with the higher critical school of biblical critics in Germany and England in the nineteenth century we have witnessed a progressive abandonment of the historic faith in the Word of God. While European seminaries gradually abandoned the authority of the Scriptures, North American seminaries and Bible colleges still upheld the accuracy of the Bible to some degree. In the 1960s most North American seminaries still accepted the basic records of the Old and New Testaments as being historically true. However, in the following decades there occurred a wholesale abandonment of belief in the historical accuracy of the Bible. The attitudes behind these attacks on biblical accuracy and authority were those of complete rejection of God's inspiration of the Scriptures. In addition, many critics approach the Bible with an attitude of outright denial of supernatural events, such as miracles, and biblical prophecy. To these unbelieving critics, the presence of a miracle or prophecy in a biblical text was absolute proof that it was not genuine. Critics rejected the possibility of inspiration, miracles, and prophecy before they began their examination of the evidence.

Despite the overwhelming success unbelieving critics have had in establishing their unbelieving attitudes within the seminaries, textbooks, and popular media, something strange began to occur. The new discoveries by archeologists digging at sites in the Middle East continued to produce fascinating finds that contradicted their attitudes. Every new discovery in Israel and the surrounding nations provided tremendous confirmation of the accuracy of the Word of God in incredible ways. As a result of these continuing discoveries, Dr. Nelson Glueck, the most outstanding Jewish archeologist of this century, wrote in his book, Rivers in the Desert, this fascinating statement. "It may be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverted a Biblical reference. Scores of archaeological findings have been made which confirm in clear outline or in exact detail historical statements in the Bible. And by the same token, proper evaluation of Biblical descriptions has often led to amazing discoveries. They form tesserae in the vast mosaic of the Bible's almost incredibly correct historical memory" (Dr. Nelson Glueck, Rivers in the Desert [New York, Grove, 1960], p. 31).

In confirmation of Dr. Glueck's statement, another respected scholar, Dr. J. O. Kinnaman, declared: "Of the hundreds of thousands of artifacts found by the archeologists, not one has ever been discovered that contradicts or denies one word, phrase, clause, or sentence of the Bible, but always confirms and verifies the facts of the biblical record." The well-known language scholar, Dr. Robert Dick Wilson, formerly professor of Semitic philology at Princeton Theological Seminary, made the following comment, "After forty-five years of scholarly research in biblical textual studies and in language study, I have come now to the conviction that no man knows enough to assail the truthfulness of the Old Testament. When there is sufficient documentary evidence to make an investigation, the statement of the Bible, in the original text, has stood the test" (Dr. Robert Dick Wilson, Speaker's Source Book, p. 391).

Who killed Jesus? The established religion of the time. These people were CERTAIN their beliefs could not possibly be wrong and therefore that made Jesus a heretic to be killed.

Why do we repeat such a mentality today?

God's inspired message to man.
Scientific evidences to prove it!!!

Matthew Maury (1806-1873) is considered the father of oceanography. His wife was reading a portion of the Bible to him. While listening, he noticed the expression "paths of the sea" in Psalms 8:8. Upon his recovery, Maury took God at his word and went look ing for these paths. We are indebted to his discovery of the warm and cold continental currents. His book on oceanography is still considered a basic text on the subject and is still used in universities. Maury used the Bible as a guide to scientific discovery. If only more would use the Bible as a guide in their personal lives!

You may be surprised to learn that the Bible revealed that the earth is round. Job 26:10, Prov 8:27, Isaiah 40:22, Amos 9:6. Today, we chuckle at the people of the fifteenth century who feared sailing because they thought they would fall over the edge of the flat earth. Yet the Bible revealed the truth in 1000 B.C. 2500 years before man discovered it for himself!

But a skeptic will say, "Everyone knows the Bible was written by men! The book of 1 Corinthians, for example, was written by a man named Paul. After all, the very first verse bears his name as the author." In reply to this we answer: "Yes, 1 Corinthians was written by Paul. Notice however, what Paul said in chapter 14, verse 37: "the things I write to you are the Lord's commandment." Paul knew the source of his writings and understood that he was like a pen in the hand of Almighty God. We must not view the Bible as the word of Paul, Peter, or Jeremiah, but rather, as the message God revealed through these men just as it is written in Jeremiah 1:9,

Then the Lord stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me, 'behold, I have put my words in your mouth'.

Actually, don't fall into the trap of assuming that western society in the dark ages (or whenever) has the ultimate word on what humanity believes. We tend to focus on them because they are the root of our current civilisation, but they werent the only ones around, by far. to say you are retarded in your anal attitude is by no means a small understatement, you demand proof, sorry your not YHVH/God, so you supply evidence, archaeological evidence to prove your specious claim/s, what you are actually, is a God hater and deeply rooted in your bitterness, denial and unbelief. It may be you will live to see Revelations (and more of scripture) unfold in full detail, if so, maybe, you will maybe have a chance to repent, unless you take the mark physically, because you have already taken it spiritually and mentally, IMO.

Lol of course that wasnt accurate, that was a quick nonsense write up to prove a point, which is that anyone who knows history can write up something that sounds godly and is accurate. As for america.. technically the natives discovered it, probably a few different times from different routes, followed by viking types, and any number of random explorer/merchant boats that happened to pass that way without really knowing/caring about new worlds.

The point is one should view the bible as an early history book (covering recent history anyway, the bible times are yesterday in the human timeline of millions of years) - history book colored by local beliefs of the time.

Here's what you just said..."because there is sin there is no God". The Pharisees were in sin, all were in sin in need of a saviour for the wages of sin are death.

There is only one God, God's people killed him.

Not, "The established religion of the time", but the religion from the beginning, God's people, as opposed to the pagan followers of Satan.

Further on "manipulating other humans", to prevent this the Father gave us His written preserved Word. Satan and his minions have historically manipulated the Word even banning it's very possession.

Depends on what you call the beginnings of western society. God's Word did not go to the gentile until 2000 years ago predated by the Roman Empire. Western does refer to the Roman leg that had an eastern.

The first Christian Church was in England first century.

Christians (like the one whose web site you are promoting) embrace science only if and when it serves their religious purposes to do so.

In claiming that any discovery supports their claims, Christians pick and choose carefully among the data. In doing so, the Christians almost always stray from the truth.

Scientific method requires that claims (hypotheses) be falsifiable.

Religious fanatics start from the proposition that nothing biblical is subject to falsification.

First of all, I think you have it backwards.

I think you are on to something but just a little off.

Let's try this out and see how it holds.

Let's say I am Satan, knowing full well what God's plan is, and also knowing full well that I will lose in the end. I know that I will have dominion over this world because of mans fallacy. In order to get back at God what would I do? In all my jealousy and hate, what would I do to get at God?

I would try like hell (no pun) to get as many of His precious people as I can to rebuke Him. I would create hordes of lies. I would create religious systems that are familiar with His, I will do WHATEVER it takes to take down his precious with me.
