For those who give a shit - Metamucil really does work!

I use to go for up to 2 weeks without a bowel movement and when I did go, my stools were small and stringy. It got to the point that I thought I must have had bowel cancer or something. Then, for some strange reason something told me to buy a container of Metamucil. I brought it home and started using it right away. Within 2 days I was back to being regular again - I honestly don't remember a time when I was regular, it must be like 20 years at least. Something else I noticed was that my stools were bulky like when I was a kid.

Metamucil is not harmful at all. It's made out of the husk of psyllium, which is indigestible...that's a good thing. The medicinal part of the Psyllium plant is the ripe seed, the husk of which is a plentiful source of natural fiber. It's the cheapest body cleanse that money can buy. Many believe (and I'm one of them) that it also flushes out toxins from the body.

Soluble fibers such as Psyllium help lower harmful cholesterol levels in the blood. Fiber can also moderate the surge in blood sugar that follows a meal.

Psyllium fiber is the active ingredient in such common over-the-counter laxatives as Metamucil and Perdiem.
For diarrhea, Psyllium soaks up many times its weight in water, thereby making the stool firmer and slower to pass. For constipation, Psyllium speeds passage by adding more water, softening the hard stool, and producing more bulk.

Has been used for weight loss. The longer food is in your pipes the longer it has to be absorbed as fat into the bloodstream. It also gives you that full feeling so you're not as hungry and tend not to over eat as much.

I hope this information helps someone who may need it. I wish I had started taking it 20 years ago! I've only been using it for a few weeks and I feel like a new man. The only negative thing I could find on Metamucil when I was doing the research was that when you stop taking it, your constipation returns. But why would anyone stop taking it?!?
