Polls in Australia on the event have been 55% in favour of the stunt. But if you polled just sydney residents im sure it would be more like 95% in favour. For over a week sydney has been turned into a prison camp. You cant even get into huge parts of the cbd. Businesses have lost so much money. Last I heard it was 300 million of tax payers money that had been wasted on this vain glorious event. Nothing comes of apec its a giant waste of money. The people of sydney are really pissed at howard for insisting the event be held in sydney and not in the capital city of Canberra. the loss of income, inconveinience and lack of any concrete results on global warming or anything for that matter will seal howards fate at the looming election. He is history. So not all bad then:)

Yes the ABC is a government financed operation but it is HATED by the Australian government because, unlike the commercial channels, the ABC doesn't have to pander to commercial advertisers, and therefore they hire people to say exactly what they think. Australian governments of every stripe have tried to get rid of "Aunty ABC" but it is SO LOVED by the people that they are forced to keep it. You are more likely to see the truth on the ABC than anywhere else.
