Higher prices on most things. Some items not in stock and those that are in stock offer fewer choices. Instead of 6 or 7 brands to choose from, now is 1 or 2. More often store shelves are low or empty in places because they are "getting ready" to re-stock. Often a single row of items spread out on the shelf to make it look like more, instead of having several rows deep.

You've pretty much described every grocery store here in Australia.
I keep out of the places myself and try and get my stuff and the mom and pop type of places.

Who knows; it may be true. Dairy aisle is always low, and high priced too. They might be getting desperate.

Another thing that's really obivious is the stores that have big stainless steel clearance carts. The items
are now very few, maybe one or two items on the entire rack. The produce that was previously put on the shelves wasn't much different than the regular priced items. Now, if it's there, you probably don't want it. When I asked a stock person what was up with that, he said they'd been told to minimze the clearance and not put things out so soon. They were losing too much on them and they should keep track of things so they'd order only what was needed and not have as much loss. Interesting. Almost as interesting as the slime oozing from the bags of the clearance produce. 8)

Re: Any thing wierd at your grocery stores?[empty shelves, high prices, less items, old items gone new items taken over, lesser quatity for same price...]
Walgreen stores nationwide had a sale on cases (24) of drinking water this week. The H2O was priced @ $2.99 per, which is a good price.

Walgreen is not exactly a "Mecca" for buying bottled water, and for the first time in my memory they were all out. They were substituting a different brand they had on hand, but were nearly out of that.

My wife asked the cashier (this was Thursday evening) if another shipment would be forthcoming before the sale ended Saturday, to which the clerk replied "we don't expect to get another truck in for at least a week", which is interesting since I know from shopping experience that Walgreen stores receive shipments from their corporate warehouses between three and four times a week.

We live in a small town in the rural part of the nation and this shortage, coming after the rumor of the eventual OBL tape and combined with the chronic Stock Market woes of the recent past, did make me wonder what kind of week we're in for starting on Monday.

they code the food with subliminal smells so you're more likely to buy it. for example ripe strawberries, fish, fresh baked bread.

Our stores have raised their prices over the last few months, some quite significantly! Even Aldi's prices have gone up. They're still cheaper than Walmart, though, on most things.

I use coupons and shop sales whenever possible, to help keep our grocery bill down.

No cows in our dairy section ... sorry! ;-)

I saw a grocery store owner being interviewed on cnbc the other day. He said that if you could eat it, it had gone up in price 35-40% since the start of the year. The worst inflation he'd seen in his time in the business and it was beginning to hurt his fixed income customers.

I am not lieing, I am saying the truth, here you go:

Prices have gone up no due to shortages, but due Gas prices going up.

Next year the prices will come down, because Gas prices will come down, and because MANY MORE LANDS WILL BE IRRIGATED.

NEXT YEAR THE MARKET WILL BE OVERWHELVED BY GOODS, SUCH AS: CARS, COMPUTERS, NINTENDOES, WHEAT, DOLLS, WATER, CUCAMBERS, POTATOES, MONITORS, CDs, ESTEPLERS, CARTOONS, VHS AND SO FORTH...

last month all the food at walmart went up drastically. and last time i shopped it had gone up even more. and something else new was, they had a greeter out front all perky and friendly, and i thought, they're trying to make people enter friendly like so they don't loathe them for the outrageous price hikes.

Yeah. Yesterday, and I'm not making this up. Most of the diary section was totally empty. I'm thinking WTF and remarked to another shopper. And she said maybe they're having problems with the refridgeration units. Made sense, but it looked weird as hell.

An entire wall totally empty except for the plastic cheese.

Food prices are 20-100% higher than the beginning of the year depending on what items...we have record prices of wheat and grains as well as fuel prices and electricity very high causing all foodstuffs to continue even higher as the dollar implodes...while no apparent shortages yet re stocking is taking on a much limited variety.... since everything is just in time delivery and inventory. Remember we are only about a day or 2 away at any time of having food shortages.

Actually, yeah. The shelves are, overall, emptier than normal and have been for about a month, maybe a month in a half now. I've also noticed a new brand of items have been added too. A low cost brand, that in some cases, is even lower priced than the store brand. I thought it was weird they would bring in products that are even cheaper than their own brand, which is always cheaper than name brand. I bit once and tried the dishwashing liquid, but it was horrible so I've never tried anything else with that name on it. It's a weird type of renovation going on there too. Making it like a warehouse and less like a supermarket.
