We are only to obey them ONLY in so much as they do not go against God's law. If you don't believe that, look at the story of Daniel, Shadraq, Meshaq and Abednego sp? They refused to bow down to the King's idol image because it would break God's law and they were cast into the firey furnace for their failure to obey the law! But God was with them and Jesus Himself delivered them from flames that were so hot, the very soldiers who's job it was to cast the prisoners into the flames died from the extreme heat emanating from the furnace. But not even so much as a hair on the head of those men was singed, nor did their clothes even smell of smoke!

How about the story of Moses and how his mother Joachabed hid him in the basket amongst the bullrushes to protect him from the LAW that every baby boy under the age of two was to be killed. He was saved! Rescued by the Pharohs own daughter and raised in the palace as royalty until such a time as he was appointed by God to free his captive people from the hand of Egyptian slavery.

Or how about the time Daniel was cast into the Lion's den because of his failure to obey the new law that the king was tricked into signing that stated no one could pray to any diety other than to him! Once again, this was a LAW that was broken by a man of God because it went against God's laws. God shut the lion's mouths so that not even so much as a hair on Daniel's head was harmed.

The amazing thing is that in each of these accounts, God used them to His glory and to teach the people that He is VERY real and not like the stone or wooden idols that they so foolishly worshipped. Because of the powerful faith of these men and women of God, He was able to perform miraculous work in their lives and their faith in the face of great opposition and even death is the very thing that brought others to God!

Their are numerous accounts in the Bible that speak to God's followers choosing death over following a corrupt governments laws! Many try to twist these scriptures and make it appear as though Christians are suppose to be be pacafists and obey ALL government laws regardless of how evil they may be. These scriptures are speaking to the rule of law "AS A RULE!" but NOT in every instance as the stories in the Bible clearly point out!

Now...does this mean that we are to take up arms and fight against an evil regime? No it does not! Jesus told us that he who lives by the sword will die by the sword and we are to love our enemies. But what we can do is quietly refuse to follow a law that is not in keeping with God's laws. And that is what we should be doing as Christians. We are to emulate Christ's example when He Himself was standing before Pilot and the Roman authorities and was silent other than to truthfully answer the charges brought against Him. That is what we, as Christians, are suppose to do.
