The farm is funny. Since I have a crop, I can shoot deer anytime I want. I tried to cook venison but I didn't like how it turned out. I had a friend that made great venison jerky.
I love photography. I have photos of my horse on the wall.

venison is very lean, we cube it and sautee it with bacon and onion, serve it over wild rice, it is very good

well if the shit hits the fan, at least you will have meat available

12 Gauge is the way to go. If you must go pistol as a primary home defense weapon, go .45 acp or .357 mag.

Stay the fuck away from 9mm, only thing it's good for is a frickin' poodle shooter.

Yeah...but .45acp and .357 ain't much better. With .45acp you're talking about 300, sometimes as much as 500, feet per second slower than 9mm. The .357 doesn't have THAT problem, but you better make your 6 rounds count. After that it's time to fumble...usually in the dark...for the reloads. My cousin's classic F-up was to brag to me how his .38 revolver was soooo much better cause it never failed to fire. If you hit a dud, it wouldn't matter cause it just rolls over to the next chamber. Two days later he was at the range and the little bead firing pin on his hammer sheared off. So his revolver went "Click, click" instead of "Boom boom". He was honest enough to come back and admit his error to me. That was when he...and myself also...realized that a revolver can malfunction just like an automatic.

I lost faith in the .45acp after seeing the video about the cop who pulled over the guy and made him cut open boxes in the back of his truck. Instead he tries to stab the cop. One of the boxes had cocaine in it. Cop twists away, whips out his hogleg, and put one into the guy. 45ACP. Guy with the knife tells the cop, "You shot me." then proceeds to try to stab the cop. They end up wrestling around and the cop final takes him down to the pavement and handcuffs him. But shooting him wasn't the way he stopped him.

Pistols are pistols. Guys have survived and fought on with 7mm Mauser rifle bullets in them during WWI and WW2. How can a .45ACP travelling 4 times slower compete with that?

No, the best gun now...in my opinion...is one that is A. reliable in function (loads and shoots, ejects and feeds)everytime, and B. is accurate so that you hit what you aim at. Caliber isn't that big a deal. A Ruger Mark II shooting .22 is better than a Hi-Point .45...if that Hi-Point .45 isn't reliable and accurate.

Shot placement is everything. Where you shoot is more important than what you shoot.

Not necessarily, but I don't do dumb things just to show the world I can. A typical slide action shotgun, like a Mossberg 500, with an 18-1/4" barrel and the standard stock (yes, there are those who prefer the pistol stock, but that's another issue) is extremely maneuverable inside the house, will work out to maybe 30 or 40 feet, and does not invite the unwelcome attentions from Uncle Pig.

And, by the way, tell me more about the "15 rd special dispenser"; how does that work, and what brands of shotgun would it work with? Are you talking about a removable magazine like some of the old bolt-action shotguns?

Duncan,, the only 15 round shotgun i know of are the street sweepers, which are now AOW, and require special tax stamps if you can find one

you can get a buckshot round for those, the hole would only be about 3 feet in diameter instead of 10 :)

Some Saiga 10rd clips out there. And I once saw a 25 or 30 round drum mag on a butt ugly automatic shotgun. (Machine shotgun) There's a video on youtube for this gun. For civilian use though, I've never heard of 15 round dispensers.
