He took Rita on a long and exhausting tour of Moslem settlements in Africa, when she again found herself an outsider and repeatedly left on her own. This time she rebelled. As he did so, a yellow Simca came powering from the other direction.
There was a sudden dazzling glare of headlights, a screech of brakes, and then head-on collision. By a miracle, Bettina, the chauffeur, and the driver of the Simca escaped death or serious injury.

Only one person was killed: Aly Khan, a year before his fiftieth birthday. But, spirited to the end, he didn't die immediately. For this to be a planned event, it would have to be a single car accident...Otherwise one would have to get him on the road and the other two cars and all involved risk their lives etc. No, he was just a rich playboy who could have died in a horse/car/skiing/speed-boat/drinking/airplane etc accident at any given moment. What is sad is that Rita died in the throes of Alzheimers. She was beautifully cared for by Yasmin.
