He accelerated the spread of the disease in New York, a very populous state, in order to provide the ammunition that they thought necessary to justify the nationwide lockdown, so that they could wage economic warfare against America. New York, and Cuomo's seemingly irresponsible decision, which really look quite deliberate, at this point, was used as the justification for the "lockdown," which has put many people out of jobs, and crippled the U.S. economy. Way to go, fuckface. |

Andrew Cuomo (D) issued a directive on March 25 requiring nursing facilities to accept patients recovering from the coronavirus. That order turned out to be a death warrant for thousands of New York state's most vulnerable people. All told, more than 5,400 New Yorkers have died in nursing facilities from the coronavirus, forcing Cuomo to reverse his policy last week. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76380333 intentionally miscounting nursing home deaths by only counting residents who died from COVID-19 in the facility itself — not residents who died after being transferred to a hospital for serious treatment. But the Democratic governor is not interested in accountability. Cuomo was confronted on Sunday by a reporter who asked for his response to families demanding accountability and justice. "Governor, what would you say to families who have suffered losses inside nursing homes?" the reporter asked. "They're looking for accountability, and they'd like to see justice." Cuomo responded by explaining that no one would face consequences for the disastrous policy because vulnerable people were going to die, anyway. Andrew M. Cuomo quietly inserted a provision on Page 347 of New York’s final, voluminous budget bill. Many lawmakers were unaware of the language when they approved the budget a few days later. But it provided unusual legal protections for an influential industry that has been devastated by the crisis: nursing home operators. The measure, lobbied for by industry representatives, shielded nursing homes from many lawsuits over their failure to protect residents from death or sickness caused by the coronavirus. Now, weeks later, more than 5,300 residents of nursing homes in New York are believed to have died from the outbreak, and their relatives are finding that because of the provision, they may not be able to pursue legal action against the homes’ operators over allegations of neglect. Several state lawmakers, besieged by complaints that poor staffing and shoddy conditions allowed the virus to spread out of control in the homes, said they were blindsided by the provision. At least one called for it to be repealed. Mr. Cuomo’s aides said nursing homes were not singled out for protection, noting that the provision also shields hospitals and other health care facilities. As New York anticipated a surge of patients, officials wanted other facilities, including nursing homes, to take in Covid-19 patients and expand bed capacity, they said. Their goal was to protect health care workers from litigation during an emergency. |
