Man in a shed User ID: 7130843 United Kingdom 12/14/2011 08:24 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What ive always found troubling about star trek is the predominance of white actors. Pretty much all the humanoid races are clearly based on white models. There are many episodes where the crew encounter "human 2.0" that is species which resemble humans quite closely but are superior such as the telepathic children or Aldeans or those Aryans from TNG. Again all white. The federation is without doubt a white American organisation with its heroes and main men being white. The star trek universe is one in which white man is the ultimate in human evolution and that point is driven home constantly but subtly. Cisko and Chakotay are probably the best examples of ethnic actors who are not emasculated or sidelined or made to play sidekick. But even chakotay ends up reverting to stereotype. Cisko doesnt escape either with his explosive temper as exploited by Q. |

The only thing I find a little nasty, is the tendency for black people to be cast in roles that die horribly. As soon as a new character pops up, and he is black, I start counting the minutes until he dies... This holds not only in Star Trek, but in Hollywood productions in general. They do have a small stable of black "stars" that are immune to this effect, for political correctness. But all other blacks are disposable cannon fodder. And that's racist, dammit. |

That said, the Klingons are definitely Africans, well, obviously not when they cast Max Von Sidow and Christopher Lloyd in the movie versions, but look at their own profile. They can't create technology of their own, having to get it from the Romulans. Warlike, aggressive, loud, not as developed as others yet, somehow, they are still a part of the Federation? Interesting show indeed. |

They were called "Space Jews" because they resembled both the physical and cultural stereotypes of Jews. WHAT this true or was it calling a race card? Read on: Quoting: Anonymous Coward 300553 from: [link to www.kinema.uwaterloo.ca] Partial quote: Bernardi also explains that Star Trek fans have argued on the electronic mailing list that the Ferengi are comparable to Jews while other fans object to the racist implications of these comparisons. The point of this current study is not to argue that the Ferengi are or are not consciously patterned after racist Jewish stereotypes. However, there are some striking similarities between the creators' description and common negative Jewish stereotypes as described by Wilson. Wilson explains that "overtly malevolent and clearly anti-Semitic [stereotypes portray] Jews as pushy, covetous, clannish, ill-man-nered [sic], ruthless, dishonest, mercenary, grasping, overbearing, sloppy, loud, money-loving, and uncouth." (23) Regardless of any direct or indirect connections made by fans between Ferengi and anti-Semitic stereotypes, the fact that the Ferengi are an "othered" race in the Star Trek universe is key to this analysis. I just looked up 'Ferengi' on youtube... WOW! They even mention the holocaust as an indictment of humanity...LOL The writers of Startrek obviously were trying to tell us something |

The Ferengi were created whilst he was alive and he helped create and approved new races for TNG. Although orginally the Ferengi were supposed to be an enemy who were vicious and terrible. But they looked more funny than fearsome, so they changed them into ruthless wealth hunters. You can look at all the Star Trek races and thier stereotypes and apply it human stereotypes of other human races. |

Sounds like a Jew. Jews breed psychopaths, like no other culture. |

Federation was some-kind-of-ism after all economies based on scarcity of resources collapse. If there is no scarcity of ANYTHING then no current economic models work. Don't think such an economic system actually has a name, but wouldn't be to bad to live in. |
