Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
[youtube]To be clearer about my recent posting: Venus is an "evening star" from late February through October of 2010. This means that it is only visible in the WESTERN sky after sunset. During these months it is not visible at or near dawn!
Venus will become a "morning star" again in November and December of 2010 and will ONLY be visible in the EASTERN sky, shortly before dawn.
The ridiculously bright star in the EASTERN sky cannot be Venus. Venus is only visible (at this time - in the northern hemisphere 9/9/2010)in the WESTERN sky, low on the horizon, shortly after sunset.
It is true that the planet Jupiter is currently visible in the EASTERN sky. However, it is ridiculously absurd to claim that Jupiter would ever appear as huge and bright as this current anomaly is! Don't believe a word of it! This is not a, normally observed, planet or star! Keep your eyes on it and watch and listen for further information. This could get interesting!

After reading the rest of this thread, I kinda doubt it gets any more interesting. But, I did chuckle a few times, groan several times and marvel at how the Internet has allowed us to reach new heights of mediocrity. I'm wondering, 100 years ago, did these sort of conversations track through letters the same way-- only at a slower rate?

Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
As I posted on the other thread - it is NOT a planet (ie Venus or Saturn); since when do planets PULSATE?! A planet appears as a static light in the sky - no light fluctuations at all. A star "twinkles". This thing in the eastern morning sky PULSATES in such a way as nothing else in the sky. Explain that...
It's not a planet or star. I look at them through my telescope. As of September 2 there are 7 different objects in the sky. One very bright object in the West that comes out around 8 PM and one in the East that appears around 9 PM. There are 5 others that move from east to north that hoover around the horizon line.
The all pulsate. The five around the horizon get bright and then disappear. There are two that are brilliant yellow, two that are red and one that changes colors from red to white.

I've been watching the LARGE VERY BRIGHT object in the western sky since the end of May, and, yes, sometimes it changes colors - mostly red/white/blue - but not "twinkling" really, slower than that.

I'm 68 years old, have been a sky-watcher for a long time, never seen anything like it other than Halley's Comet in the 70's, which was about the same brightness.

It does NOT show up on Stellarium.
At this date, September 3, Venus (and Mars) sinks below the horizon just after 8 p.m., but this thing is still there, more to the north.
NO, IT'S NOT ANTARES.

It seems to just disappear later, not sinking below the horizon 'cuz it stays in the same spot, then gone. Maybe I don't watch it long enough. But stars and planets move, and pretty fast too; you with telescopes know this.

Haven't a clue...

Has anyone in more northerly latitudes seen it? I'm in S. Arizona, my Seattle friend says he doesn't see anything. (But when is the sky clear in Seattle?)
 Quoting: Anka

We have very clear winter skies in interior alaska. Yes we have the very bright
Whatever It Is (the Wii in the Sky . . .) Way brighter than anything else and
can be seen well past dawn. Have been watching it for a number of years now. Can't see it in the summer of course, but every fall when nights get dark again it seems to increase in intensity. We also have stationary red-and-blue
twinkly somethings in the NE sky, the NW sky and the SE sky. We have a cabin
with a very good view of the sky and NO light pollution and we watch the twinkly things all winter long. They are ALWAYS in the same spots.

And yes, the Whatever It Is doesn't seem to set. It just disappears. Have seen
this quite a few times, most notably at New Year's fireworks display. The
Wii was quite a ways up over the horizon, maybe 30 degrees, in the direction
the fireworks were being shot off. So it was very noticeable. When the fireworks show was over (about 20 minutes) it just completely vanished.

Yes, what is that - A planet?

Don't know, but it's closer than i have ever seen, i just noticed it tonight. What planet? I don't know.
 Quoting: sasha

Noticed it TONIGHT? If it's in the east in the NIGHT, It's StarShip Sirius. If it's in th morning, it's star ship Venus. If it's overhead and moving west after dark, It's starship Jupiter.

And that thingy North east in the early evening, haven't check for it in the mile of the nigtht, is also a starship. If they have colors that change, they are starships and not stars.

planets are reletively right infront of our noses compared to stars wich are a world away.

hence they often look the same in brightness.

Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
I saw this thing last week a few nights and it was way larger, brighter, and lower than Venus ever was that I can recall.
So I got my friend who has an app on his phone that
will show a sky map where you point it- and there was nothing on the map for this.
sure, it could've been an error somewhere, but I have serious doubts.

It's not on Stellarium either. Venus and Mars now below the horizon after 8 p.m., but this object is still there.
 Quoting: Anka

I don't know where Mar's is currently, but VENUS STARSHIP is now viewable as the morning star.

Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
Here's my post on the other related thread. No way this was a planet...

[link to www.godlikeproductions.com]

Not sure if what I saw this morning is the same object that you all are discussing here, but let me say...I was impressed and a bit unnerved by this thing. Let me explain: I was waiting on a train platform at 6:00 am this morning facing south waiting for a commuter train to take me westward towards my destination. At about 2 o'clock in the early morning sky, this star, or so I thought, appeared to be pulsing. And although I am no star gazer by any means, I can tell the difference between a star and a planet. This was no common star - it was pulsing and doing so very deliberately; it was larger that anything else in the night sky (save the moon) and it was blue. After staring at it for about I minute, I started to feel a bit unnerved - meaning, I couldn't recall ever seeing a star behave in this manner before and felt fearful that something just wasn't right. Could this be what you all are referring to?

Once again, if its overhead and somewhat now to the west after it is completely dark, It's starship Jupiter.

If its in the east in the evening, It's starship Sirius. (comes up after Orion's belt.).

If is really big and huge in the morning before sunrise and stays visible for a bit of time after Sunrise, and it's in the east, it is Star Ship Venus. And anything that twinkles different colors is also a starship. No matter it's position in the sky. there is one always in the northeast after sundown for example. If man had accurate knowledge of how things work, he would not be so confused by things that are obviously starships. (ie mother ships from heaven.)

Once again, we can all see it, if we are up before sunrise, and it's STARSHIP VENUS. Holding the place of the former Venus, which has been terraformed so man can live on it, and it's NOW in the same orbit as earth, as it was to close to the sun, and since it's now in earth's orbit, it is always on the other side of the sun from Earth. This is the natural way of orbits when 2 planets share an orbit. Each is half way around. Someday mars will be moved closer to the sun, it's being terraformed also, and then it while share this orbit also, each one, Venus, Mars, and EArth will be at 1/3 from each other.

Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
be careful, the govt. dis-information people are out in force saying the bright light is Venus. Nibaru is returning from its 3600 yr eliptical orbit and is entering our solar system. It wont collide with earth, but will come close enough to wreak havoc with our planet and possibly cause a pole shift. The govt. has known this since 1983 and has been preparing ever since. They have been constructing deep underground bases(d.u.m.b.s. look it up on google) in anticipation of the coming cataclysm.

if you looked for yourself you wouldn't appear so ignorant

I have never seen such a star in all my years...NEVER

it is like a halogen light...so clear and bright, it outshines all the other stars, and is well worth your time to look.
