I live in Lansing, MI, U.S.A.
I have observed this SAME object for a few weeks now and I can also assure that it is NOT Venus.
NOT VENUS. Period.
I'm 23 years old, and since the Haley in '97 I've been obsessed with the night sky. I stare at it every night. But never in my short time as a being on this planet have I seen something so inexplicable.
If I look to the east I see it about 30 degrees up, and from that point about 15 degrees south. It's been there for about 3 weeks. It's BRIGHT as all get-out, and "twinkles", like a star.
It almost has a blue-ish hue to it, like an artificial light.
I've been trying to look it up for a weeks, and I stumbled on this site. I, by curse of curiosity, just have to give my input.
From what I can tell, It is a non-planetary celestial body, obviously akin to a star. What star, and why it has appeared so suddenly, is my real cause for inquiry into it's origin and lack of explanation.
Please, for the love of my sanity, someone explain this.
You are sane. Many of us here in Ohio have noticed this since June 2009. Can't explain it. It is very low and appears just at sunset as the first light in the sky. It changes colors and twinkles.
