Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
Ok, Here goes, say what you will, at 6:05 pm planet type object was near what as far as i can tell the constelation of menoceras on the northeastern edge i can see jupiter to the south west clearly st this time much larger. this object came out at 4:47pm just as sun broke horizon at sunset, this is with naked eye only, moon was out just before 4pm. making visualization of stars difficult. have varified star locations from star charts. this doesn't correspond to any known. it does move in moon pathway as previously described for past nine months. i live 2 miles south of merrifield minnesota for location markers. good luck, thanks for any help, much appreciated.

OK - if it's near Monoceros you're most likely looking at either Sirius or Procyon, both very bright stars (Sirius is the brightest star in the sky, and Procyon the 8th brightest).

They are both very impressive, and if they're near the horizon will twinkle a lot, often flashing different colours.

Try a planetarium program like Stellarium, Celestia or Cartes du Ciel and you'll be able to check more exactly for yourself...

Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
What you're looking at are no bright stars ! they're huge extraterrestrial spaceships positioned around the Earth to try and re-enforce our earth's protective magnetic field which at the moment is very weak . The arrival of Nibiru and its momentous passage across the solar system will inevitably create havoc amongst the planets including Earth .
Perhaps these and other huge ET-Interstellar-Spaceships that are on their way toward Earth and that are due to arrive in December 2012 may try a desperate last minute attempt at saving as many human lives as they can before Nibiru gets too close , as a possible interplanetary collision cannot be excluded sealing humanity's fate as the Mayans and other highly evolved civilisations have repeatedly indicated .
We may all be saved or may be not . This time we are truly in the hands of God . Please Keep an open mind and accept that creation in all its forms and purposes is truly remarkable as well as infinite . Just be thankful that we as insignificant and inconsequential as we are , nonetheless can imagine and using the great gift of reason genetically imprinted into our DNA by our ancestral fathers (the Annunaki ), can put all the pieces of this gigantic amazing puzzle together and reach such rational and reasonably accurate conclusions . May be this is the very reason , our awareness , based on some sixth sense intuition , analytical rationalisation and intelligence , which has induced other vastly more technologically advanced
ET civilisations who have been observing us , to come to our aid in this time of desperate need . If they succeed in saving us , humanity will be able to enter a new and wonderful era of
awareness where all of humanity's energy will be finally channelled where it should be , that is in understanding our universal brotherhood and our ultimate goal will be dictated by acts of true love . Best wishes to us all !

It is not Venus it is Jupiter in the East very brilliant right now. It is positioned to be very visible from Earth this month. Venus is also very visible anytime it is above the horizon but not positioned near Jupiter yet. Later they will both be visible together. Then all you guys are going to be running for your bunkers because then clearly Niburi and its moon the Death Star are both ready to kill everyone!

Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
I thought the venus explanation might be correct untill last week I noticed three bright planet sized objects in the night sky after coming home from work at 3:00 AM. I took out my 8 inch tele and took a look. I saw what I would describe as venus a bright white shimmering planet in the low south west but at 3 in the morn? Then I concentrated on the bright star due east and there it was again the pulsating very bright whatever it is star, planet, mothership etc whatever anyone choose's to call it. Except this time I noticed another one toward the north, when I put the scope on it it looked almost the same as the one due east except with a more reddish pulse around it. I have never been able to see three large planets stars from the front of my yard before because of my location in town and the surrounding building's and tree's interfering so this is for sure an exception for me. For anyone to say it's this or that is pure ego and inexperienced astronomy. Unless one has the resources such as Nasa telescopes and is paid to watch the night sky's on a daily basis none of us can actually make any claim other than it's an anomoly that at this time we cannot identify. Whatever it is it sure does make sky gazing exciting and interesting at this time...;)yoda

there are other stars too bright..so when i use the telescope u can see like they have 3 different colors..but this one it's just white..nothing else..so i was wondering maybe somebody could tell me about it..so i guess i'm gonna keep looking..

Re: HUGE BRIGHT STAR IN THE EASTERN SKY!
I was confused when I started reading that Venus is in the Eastern sky. It isn't. It's now in the Western sky and is appearing as the Evening Star.

Then I noticed that this ancient thread was started back in 2007. Why would someone be reviving such an old thread now? I hope the person who brought this museum piece back realizes that the planets change position. In 2007 maybe Venus was the Morning Star, but it isn't now. The sky changes.

It is NOT a star of any kind. And coward is right there are several of these objects. Two appearing around 8-9PM and the brightest one is clearly seen in the early hours in the morning, around 6-6AM in the Eastern NY Sky. I've managed to take a very hi-res pics of these thing with the telephoto lens on Nikon D90. When I magnified that, I could NOT believe what I saw!!! If you want these pick email me I'll send them to you so you can see for yourself. You are NOT going to believe what you'd see, I guarantee

I live in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada which is inbetween Buffalo and Detroit for those of you who have no clue where I am.

Since this time last year I have been noticing a new star in the sky. This time last year it was seen from 9pm-12 am right under the moon. It was about 7th brightest thing in sky(moon, venus, jupiter, sirius, orions belt, big dipper). Through the spring it always poped up as the 5th star to appear at night but pushed further west of the moon. By the summer I wouldnt see this star until about 1 in the morning and it was on the west side of the dipper. Very far from the moon. When winter solstice it was inbetween the big dipper and the moon and noticebly brighter than venus but sirius was still brighter. I started to forget about this star as i just in a year it rotated 360 degrees and just got brightest in the winter.

However, now I stand corrected. On Thursday February 23rd 2012 This star appeared right to the left of the cresent moon almost directly on the same longitude and it was in fact brighter than the light the cresent moon shone. Something Ive never witnessed in my lifetime something actually being brighter than the moon when it shines any light. The other thing was it was huge much larger than a regular star would be in the sky. it appears before the moon by about 30 minutes and does not leave until the moon starts to leave our sight making it in rotation with the moon.

Yes this sounds bonckers but it aint Venus, mars, jupiter, sirius or the north star or part of the big dipper or orions belt as i can point each of those stars out any time of the year.I told my girlfriend about it and she isnt into stars but admits its impossible to not notice. Is this Nibaru?? is this a comet?? or is it just a supernova taking for ever to lose its light. Who knows

All I can say it aint something we see on a regular basis and the media will not report it as noone wants anyone to panic over this as the government always hides this stuff.

Its a cool sight though and hopefully tonight will be clear enough for me to see it as im facinated by this bright light.

I hope its Nibaru though..lol

Ten seconds checking with a skymap program tells me you're looking at Venus.

23rd Feb - 43 deg north - left of the moon - very bright. Yup, Venus.

If you've never seen Venus shining like that, I can only assume you've not spent much time looking at the sky. It gets like that regularly, and even if it's quite nice, it's nothing to get your knickers in a twist about.

Yes this sounds bonckers but it aint Venus, mars, jupiter, sirius or the north star or part of the big dipper or orions belt as i can point each of those stars out any time of the year.I told my girlfriend about it and she isnt into stars but admits its impossible to not notice.  Quoting: lucipher13 11499671

Why not take the time to find out, instead of making wild guesses. Try Stellarium or Google Sky - they'll identify anything you're looking at.

All I can say it aint something we see on a regular basis and the media will not report it as noone wants anyone to panic over this as the government always hides this stuff.
 Quoting: lucipher13 11499671

LOL - and how do you stop hundreds of thousands of amateur astronomers round the workld from talking about it? If there was anything weird in the sky it would be big news. And not everyone takes their orders from the US - plenty of countries would be only to happy to expose something liek this if any government was trying to cover it up.

I hope its Nibaru though..lol
 Quoting: lucipher13 11499671

Not very likely, since there's no such thing - although if you're one of the "believers" you'll no doubt be lying on your death bed saying "any day now..."

I am not an astronomy pro, but also not an idiot. I live in Tucson, AZ. I am a dog owner and walk my dogs for the last several years, usually twice in the evening. Since last year I have noticed a very bright object, actually now it appears as two objects, but one is unrealistically bright. I know I have never seen anything this bright before and I am 35. I have always been a star watcher, and this is not a star, nor a planet!

Anyone who tells me it is Venus or Jupiter I will say: Try not to be so biased by what you've learned and so quick to rationalize everything based on what we know... there is more we don't. And denial is always a first step before acceptance.

I see silent planes leaving chemtrails in the sky almost daily. I have been seeing a lot of lights without blinkers moving in the sky around 7:30 - 9:30 pm almost every night now. they fly in a choppy fashion with variable speed, then fade out. And of course having an airbase nearby I have seen all of the planes and know the difference.

There are way too many new things I am noticing lately in the sky... And what is news gonna tell you? We have all been warned about 2012... over and over. They are not going to start the panic...

Well, I'm almost twice as old as you, and have been an amateur astronomer since I was about 14. I probably spend a lot more time looking at the sky than you, even if you do walk your dogs every night.

What you're seeing, if you're looking at two bright objects in the west after sunset, are Venus and Jupiter. If you think what you're seeing are not stars or planets, then what are they?

Anyone who tells me it is Venus or Jupiter I will say: Try not to be so biased by what you've learned and so quick to rationalize everything based on what we know... there is more we don't. And denial is always a first step before acceptance.
 Quoting: AlexoAZ 12226974

OK - you think it's not Venus and Jupiter, then where exactly are your objects in relation to Venus and Jupiter?

I've been looking at both planets regularly for a long time, and Jupiter has been really great for observing over the past year. I can see the two of them clearly in the west after sunset, and there are no other bright objects anywhere near them.

A look through a telescope, or even good binoculars will show you indeed that they are Venus (which shows phases) and Jupiter (with the Galilean moons orbiting it).

 Quoting: AlexoAZ 12226974

I'm not even going to comment on chemtrail eejitry. For some reason they never come near my house. Then again, I don't live near an airport or on a flight path...

There are way too many new things I am noticing lately in the sky... And what is news gonna tell you? We have all been warned about 2012... over and over. They are not going to start the panic...
 Quoting: AlexoAZ 12226974

LOL - 2012 will pass like any other year, and we'll no doubt have the usual excuses from all the prophets about why we're still here.

And there are no "new things" in the sky that I, or any of the hundreds of thousands of other astronomers around the world, can see. If there were, why aren't the astronomy forums and groups not full of discussion? Why aren't there streams of people coming to our (or any) astronomy club asking about them?

If you don't look regularly, and don't learn how the stars and planets move, then you can always be surprised by what you see. Try Stellarium and it'll help identify what you're looking at.

I'll repeat the question from above, since it's probably the only way to convince you - if these two bright objects aren't Venus and Jupiter, then where are they in the sky in relation to Venus and Jupiter???

Nope - satellites move quite quickly compared to stars and planets.

I don't understand why most of the people going on about these "mystery objects" don't just download a program like Stellarium and find out what they're looking at...

As I posted on the other thread - it is NOT a planet (ie Venus or Saturn); since when do planets PULSATE?! A planet appears as a static light in the sky - no light fluctuations at all. A star "twinkles". This thing in the eastern morning sky PULSATES in such a way as nothing else in the sky. Explain that...
