BREAKING: CA SCHOOL SHOOTING/POSSIBLE HOSTAGE SITUATION FORCES ALL SCHOOLS IN OROVILLE DISTRICT INTO LOCKDOWN - GUNMAN IN CUSTODY
[link to www.foxnews.com]

Police are negotiating with a student gunman who fired shots inside a California high school.

Up to 10 students are being held in the bandroom at Las Plumas High School in Oroville, Calif. by a student with a gun, according to preliminary and unconfirmed reports from the police scanner. No injuries have been reported.

A dispatcher at the Butte County Sheriff's Department says a 911 call came into authorities just after 9 a.m.

He said deputies are talking to the student and trying to negotiate with him to put down the gun.

A message posted on the Oroville Union High School District's Web site says all six schools in the district are on lockdown.

The district's phone rang busy Friday morning.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

MORE DETAILS AS THEY BECOME AVAILABLE.

I bet the deputies are negotiating with the student by standing behind trees 500 feet away from the school holding their SMG's like they did at Virgina Tech. How many will the police let this one kill?

this would never happen in california, but , some states are considering allowing qualified teachers to carry concealed, i believe two states have already authorized it

it would put an end to this nonsense fairly quickly

It is unfathomable that our nation's most precious assets must, by law (unless home schooled) go by force into a criminal protection zone each and every day, where law abiding properly liscened people must leave their weapons at home because they OBEY the law, and those people with murder on their minds walk RIGHT PAST the "no guns" signs with their weapons blazing.

This is incredible. With the clear and present danger of a repeat of Breslin in the U.S. our schools are unprotected.

I personally would volunteer to ride a school bus a few times a week, or walk the ground of a school with other parent and grandparent volunteers....HOW IS IT POSSIBLE that this keeps happening? THE LAW makes it possible.

Reports: Gunman At Oroville School In Custody

POSTED: 10:16 am PDT September 28, 2007
UPDATED: 10:47 am PDT September 28, 2007
OROVILLE, Calif. -- A possible shooting and hostage situation at Las Plumas High School has apparently been diffused.

The Butte County Sherriff's dispatch has reported that students are being released, and the gunman is in custody.

At about 9:35 a.m., reports surfaced of a possible shooting and hostage situation. Authorities said that there is a male student gunman detained in a classroom.

Charity Bailey of KNVN said a shot was fired into the air and nobody was injured. She said two female students were held hostage in the band room.

Rescue units from Oroville and Chico are reporting.

Students are being moved to the Church Of The Nazarene at 2238 Monte Vista Ave.

A notice on the Oroville Union High School District Web site says, "If your student is at the Las Plumas campus you will not be able to pick them up at this time. If you would like to pick up a student from another school be prepared to show identification and please be patient with the emergency support staff."

THIS is the RESULT of the whining LIBERALS who are so fightened of violence, they passed the laws to restrict the NONviolent members of society !

California SUCKS and is a bastion of perverted, liberal
ideas of ' How To ' make life SAFE for the criminal.

GLAD it is happening there; but not that someone could be injured ( FOR the lily-livered liberals who WILL fire back ... " How COULD you say such a thing ! " ).

In New England, we would say " Your GETTING your come-uppance." LIVE with it, liberal lovers !!

Had you done that, the ACLU would have filed a lawsuit on behalf of the sex offender against the school and also named you as a defendant, but had the sex offender abducted and molested a child you wouldn't hear a peep from them. Truth be told I'd have done the same thing you did if only to make a show of force to the molester that if he pulled any of his tricks, he faced ventilation.

this is not about other schools or other issues in California going on, this is about a teenager holding people hostage with a gun. What does this mean for teenagers like me? It gives us a bad rep. This guy needs to be in juvie for a LONG time but knowing our judicial system, he'll only get 1 month. My girlfriend goes to Las Plumas and I was scared when I heard about all this, I was worried for her safety, and I was wondering if we were going to have a High School version of Virginia Tech. The news needs to stop putting all of this in the media. It just gives people reason to go out there and do all this all over again. It aint right.

Dear sorry for your worry today, glad you and your girlfriend are safe.
This does not give more reason. It takes a truly insane or brain washed person to commit such attrocity. Either one can be quite dangerous. Personally, I opt for brainwashed.
However, we will probably never know anything about these kids or shooters anymore. Not the whole stories. Those will be told on the streets.
Stay safe/

Re: BREAKING: CA SCHOOL SHOOTING/POSSIBLE HOSTAGE SITUATION FORCES ALL SCHOOLS IN OROVILLE DISTRICT INTO LOCKDOWN - GUNMAN IN CUSTODY
My daughter was in the classroom next to the door where the boy walked by, and entered a classroom 2 doors down. Yes, as a mom I was absolutely terrified for my child, especially since the gunman passed just 5 feet from her with his gun in hand - her teacher reported his presence. But I have to say, thank God for cell phones. I knew where she was and what was happening with her the whole time.

It is a shame something like this happened in our little town. Half the teens in our town attend LP. What happened has nothing to do with gun control (by now we ought to know that ANYONE can get a gun and do just about whatever they'd like with it), or liberals, or democrats, or politics. It's about teen drama (one of the hostages was his "supposedly-pregnant-by-his-best-friend-girlfriend"), probably lack of a decent human in this boy's life, and ease of access to a gun and to the school. I was there, and so was my daughter. One of the sheriff's onsite is a close family friend. Nobody was shot - law enforcement officials, school staff and local citizens did an outstanding job of bringing the situation to a safe end.

It was an emotional day. Now comes the aftermath.

i can not even imagine what raced through you mind, and i have to agree about that boy not having a decent human role model in his life, and i believe this is just another example of "i am a victim" mentality, and i will bear no responsiblity for my actions. ie, we brought guns to school almost everyday, left in our cars to go hunting or target shooting after school, we would never dream of pointing or firing one of them at a fellow student, because we were taught of the consequences of doing so.

times have certainly changed

In fact no they were running up and down the hall ways trying to find him while all the classroom doors were locked. The school went into lock down the first 2 seconds they knew the gunman was there. Some thing VT didn't even do.

No one got shot, the guy in fact let the whole class room go but kept two girls hostage who talked him into giving them the gun which is how the stand off ended. See this is one of the few schools where it was done the way it should have been.

And the students were smart enough to talk sense into him instead of jumping out of windows and cowering behind desk.
