The 7.4 occurred at 13:38UTC which would have been at 06:38am PT. The quakes that Deyo is referencing were all time stamped 13:50 or 6:50am PT. Screen capture took place at 07:00am PT just before they were removed. Big quakes of 7+ usually set off seismos all over the world. It just takes USGS a little while for them to sort it all out. There was one in Hawaii that was also removed. |

Of the 700+ quakes, nearly 60% have occurred in California and Nevada. This map is interesting not for its number of earthquakes but for the unusually quieter places where they've occurred like Texas. Over time if you get enough big earthquakes in a short period of time ....say a few months ....then other fault lines come awake and start a chain reaction. Might seem like it is taking a while but when large percentages of people start feeling eqs everywhere the panic and fear level will sky rocket.
