NEW YORK - Comcast Corp. actively interferes with attempts by some of its high-speed Internet subscribers to share files online, a move that runs counter to the tradition of treating all types of Net traffic equally.
The interference, which The Associated Press confirmed through nationwide tests, is the most drastic example yet of data discrimination by a U.S. Internet service provider. It involves company computers masquerading as those of its users.
If widely applied by other ISPs, the technology Comcast is using would be a crippling blow to the BitTorrent, eDonkey and Gnutella file-sharing networks. While these are mainly known as sources of copyright music, software and movies, BitTorrent in particular is emerging as a legitimate tool for quickly disseminating legal content.
The principle of equal treatment of traffic, called "Net Neutrality" by proponents, is not enshrined in law but supported by some regulations. Most of the debate around the issue has centered on tentative plans, now postponed, by large Internet carriers to offer preferential treatment of traffic from certain content providers for a fee. |

Quoting: Gader'elI think it's a gray area. But lobbyists are pushing for congress to make it legal for them to disregard net neutrality. |

It's completely legal. The servers they use to rate shape traffic are Sandvine products and many companies do it to some degree. SAndvines disallow seeding outside of networks (thus neighbors can still share and you can share with others within your node group up through to the point where your connection is passed through rate shaping). This could mean that all customers within a region could share, or they could make it a specific geographic segment of their network. It's not illegal, and it allows them to ensure that you and your neighbors have available bandwidth so you can access the internet unaffected by your neighbors inability to control their porn additction for the latest HD pirated copy of Debby Does Dallas. Cheers! |

If it blocks GLP, I'm saying bye-bye to Comcast. They endorse the illegal aliens too. Actually saw a commercial where they said "Hispanics are the future of America"... shoving it down our throats like it's some kind of assfucking we might as well learn to accept. I have serious issues with Comcast. I'm only using the fucks for their fast connection. |

People want what they cannot have. Even if you tell the Fox News pussies that post here that they cannot any longer surf here to debunk us, well, that's gonna piss some people. They'll only catch 12 year olds with grandparents - that's what they prey upon. I can tell you it's bye bye for any ISP that starts to fuck with the wrong people. I know for a fact that many ISP's will never accept this nonsense and thus competition will take root. |
