Since ancient times salt is thought to have cleansing properties, and it is even used as a food preservative due to its anti-bacterial properties. It is considered as a universal purifier and is used by many cultures and religions for purification, protection and healing purposes.

The principle behind these properties of salt lies behind its composition, as we know it salts are really good conduits of energy, they can potentially disrupt the flow electromagnetic energies, and theoretically speaking ghosts and spirits are essentially energies.
