Karen: Yeah what is it? This is the fourth time you've called today.
Mike: There is something I've gotta tell ya. It's about Comet Holmes, please hear me out.
Karen: Michael, I am really tired, keep it short and sweet or else I will hang up on you again.
Mike: Okay okay. This ain't no conspiracy theory, this is a new scientific theory. I reckon matter is being created in and around comet Holmes.
Karen: Hmmm... Go on.
Mike: You remember when the piece of ice materialized in the cave. Well, I'm beginning to think it was a demonstration of the creation of matter. Do you remember how I described the orange-yellow light reflecting off the walls of the cave? It was orange-yellow just like Comet Holmes!
(Long pause, faint sound of breath from Karen's mouth piece)
Mike: Are you still there?
Karen: It sounds an interesting idea. Are you saying that Holmes could continue growing into a full sized planet?
Mike: Yes.
Karen: Matter from apparently nowhere.
Mike: Yes.
(pause)
Mike: That is pretty much it, I will post the idea on GLP and the Bad Astronomy forum and we will see how it goes down. I'll let you go now.
Karen: Night.
Mike: See ya.

Thats what I thought but lets be realistic people, even if its was thrown out of oribit what makes you think that it could hit a marble in a desert in such a small time from so far away?
What were the chances of a space object hitting a pea sized comet like this one?
yes..that is one weird...comet?...thanks for all the info friends.
Peace ...do remember my agreement with everyone when having these little conversations. There is no judgment on my end of things nor any expectations on my part. You are free to believe what you wish.
No, Holmes isn't comet, it's a planet that is currently undergoing formation!
No way, Ossie bloke, THAT'S MY IDEA BASED ON MY OBSERVATION!!!

You're both off on this ! A while back I stumbled upon a PDF file discussing a Comet break-up that had become a cluster of small comets that was observed near Jupiter or Saturn (Bad Memory) It was observed to be attracting the smaller frags to a nucleus that was becoming a large comet with an associated large dust cloud. This stunned the observers. I'm sure Kent may Recall this document - hopefully he will pipe in.

A simple average comet that happens to be getting brighter because its errupting! its 150 million miles away and heading away from us. On top of that it will no doubt dim right down again in the next few days. How boring! what the hell is all this hot air for!
Yes it's normal that comets brighten up by a factor of a million on their ways out, sure. I am here to challenge your indoctrinated false belief that flaming queens don't use shovels ...

so..never did find out how fast the alleged energy wave the comet interacted with is travelling...
anyone know?
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 260371
There is no energy wave, matter is being created like I said in the phone transcript above. Do you have a problem contemplating the idea that matter can come from apparently nowhere?

I was referring to the Russian claim that an energy wave was approaching.
do you have a problem with that?
well do ya?
lol

spaceweather.com encourages amature astronomers to observe this comet, simply because they know it will soon return to normal comet status with tail and it will progressively dim, then they can say "we told you so" and then forget about it, and make all you woo woo's look really stupid.

No, I do not have a problem with that. We should pay more attention to Deborah Lodi's posts concerning multi dimensions. 1D, 2D, 3D, 4D, 5D... so on and so forth. These ideas may help us understand the spontaneous occurrence of matter.

And those that once claimed the world was round when general consensus held that it was flat were also called woowoos. Who cares if woowoos look stupid? Clearly not the woowoos eh?

It is a grain of sand ... interacting with the distilled water of our solar system, and and we are witnessing the Creation of a new Planet.
We must harness the force of this energy -- to create our new world.

The idea that the world was flat was a common belief for 1000s of years. Such were called "woohoos" because they went against the previous order, notable the religious.
This comet is NOT comparable. Theres no evidence to suggest we'll get hit and those who claim so seem to be basing it on little if not nothing unlike those who said the world was round.
The woohoos here still look stupid if you ask me...
