Doesn't look like a normal tail, rather like stuff blown up by an explosion, of course that would be left behind during it's movement and eventually form something similar to a tail I suppose. I am here to challenge your indoctrinated false belief that flaming queens don't use shovels ... |

If the comet is supposed to stay bright for a few weeks, after it has fade we still might get various dots of this dust left from its path of orbit.
But of course I doubt we'd see it like the comet now.
As for the UK? No idea honestly... nothing yet. |

 | | Re: 17P/Holmes - Enigma 'Comet' | Quote | Dudes, the scientist in that yahoo article is a big lier.
He claims the comet has a coma, but no tail! BS!
As a comet nears the inner solar system, heat from the sun vaporizes some of the ice on the surface of the nucleus, spewing gas and dust particles into space. This gas and dust forms the comet's coma. Radiation from the sun pushes dust particles away from the coma. These particles form a tail called the dust tail.
[link to www.nasa.gov]
So where's a coma there's a tail.
We're not seeing the tail because the view from our vantage point is relatively on the same line with the comet and the tail is behind it. THIS THING IS COMING OUR WAY. Maybe there'll be no hit since the Earth moves, the comet moves and paths could diverge. But they're obviously hiding something.
This is just my opinion. No need to get inquisitorial on me anyone. thanx |

There has been no news what so ever of it getting brighter because its getting closer. And its impossible to cover up because of the many many independent observers so AGAIN no its not going to hit us. |

It won't hit because you can't silence to many other observers...
It might just be so bright that the light engulfs the tail. |

I disagree with your second point.
Radiation from the sun pushes dust particles away from the coma. These particles form a tail called the dust tail.
[link to www.nasa.gov]
As bright as the nucleus+coma would be, the gas and dust trailing behind would be visible. UNLESS the nucleus+come lies between our viewpoint and the trail. In that case the tail and the nucleus+come would look like a round planet like object with the atmosphere formed by the tail stretching back and the coma and the "core" by the even brighter nucleus. Exactly what we're seeing. |

Perhaps the "coma" was causes by something else? I've read repeatedly that comets produce tails as they come inside Jupiter's orbit due to discharged electric potential accumulated away from the sun, as this comet stays inside said orbit, I would not expect much of one. Anyone know if it has exhibited a tail in he past?
Plus, we are between the sun and Holmes so an ion tail would not be visible curently... "There is no separation, only miss-communication" |

What is happening to this comet? It remains a mystery.
If expansion of the spherical cloud continues, Holmes could soon become a naked eye disk rather than a dimensionless point of light. Stay tuned!
