I don't want to sound all woo-woo (again), but... The famous Planet X is supposed to have a massive dustcloud around it, along with a bunch of moons circulating it, AND it should be heading towards the earth at a great speed.
Umm... am I the only one who thinks this fits all of that somewhat perfectly..? |

No it does not fit, 17/P was a visible comet in the first place, NOT a fairy planet that's been hanging around for four years, (hanging in Nancy's mind). |

5 Years too early for what? Can someone please tell me why is it carved in stone that "the" year is 2012. We are not even sure what year it is now FFS!
And please, I've heard all about the famous mayan calendar. Is there anything else? |

Will you please forget about Nancy already, she calculated 2+2 and got 4,5 as a result. That does not mean that Planet X couldn't be real, and it couldn't be this one. If some loser claims that he is the president of the US, it doesn't mean that the president of the US does not exist at all.
When has this been "officially" a comet? We've seen it before, sure, and we've guessed that it must be a comet because we always try to explain everyhing with existing "knowledge", but are we sure that it is a comet? It seems even the astronomers don't know what it is.
For the first time ever, I'm REALLY seeing something that looks like good old-fashioned cosmic doom. Which is actually scaring me a bit. |

'Comet' Holmes shall be as bright as the moon tommorow (October 31st) nad change the world forever...
Are you out of your mind? As bright as the moon in two days?
Come one! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 291489
It's fairly simple, the original comet was about 1 square mile by about 3/4 of a mile, so it ran into a meteor, much like a bullet Vs a rock melon, BANG!, so we now have an expanding cloud of comet "bits" some could be quite big, without gravity and friction the bits keep going in the direction they were ejected by the "explosion", so you have a "cloud", note the cloud is thinning as it expands, the comet is likely to have been going round and round the sun for millions of years and it's luck ran out.
The greater concern is the ejected "bits", where are they going and will the earth run into them? |

Honestly, I couldn't care less about our pathetic and primitive year-counting. I've always known it is just something artificial built on nothing = it's nothing. No importance on anything on this planet.
I'm seeing now something really weird up in the sky. That's the biggest "sign" I've seen so far in my life, I just don't care what year it is. |

| Prof-Rabbit User ID: 148352 10/30/2007 4:03 AM | | Re: 17P/Holmes - Enigma 'Comet' | Quote | Here is the impact calculator, I have used a medium 100m chunk of comet as a starting point here is the data for a land impact.
Your Inputs:
Distance from Impact: 100.00 km = 62.10 miles
Projectile Diameter: 100.00 m = 328.00 ft = 0.06 miles
Projectile Density: 3000 kg/m3
Impact Velocity: 60.00 km/s = 37.26 miles/s
Impact Angle: 80 degrees
Target Density: 2500 kg/m3
Target Type: Sedimentary Rock
Atmospheric Entry:
The projectile begins to breakup at an altitude of 74200 meters = 243000 ft
The projectile reaches the ground in a broken condition. The mass of projectile strikes the surface at velocity 40.7 km/s = 25.3 miles/s
The impact energy is 1.30 x 1018 Joules = 3.10 x 102MegaTons.
The broken projectile fragments strike the ground in an ellipse of dimension 0.434 km by 0.427 km
Major Global Changes:
The Earth is not strongly disturbed by the impact and loses negligible mass.
The impact does not make a noticeable change in the Earth's rotation period or the tilt of its axis.
The impact does not shift the Earth's orbit noticeably.
Final Crater Diameter: 3.32 km = 2.06 miles
Final Crater Depth: 0.425 km = 0.264 miles
The crater formed is a complex crater.
The volume of the target melted or vaporized is 0.0114 km3 = 0.00273 miles3
Roughly half the melt remains in the crater
Seismic Effects:
What does this mean?
The major seismic shaking will arrive at approximately 20 seconds.
Richter Scale Magnitude: 6.3
Mercalli Scale Intensity at a distance of 100 km:

Lauderdale, and looking straight overhead the moon looks amazing as the clouds wiz by in front of it. Been pretty cloudy and rainy since Holmes exploded. The Pleiades look awesome, so does orion towards the South overhead. to the south of the moon looks like Mars - red planet. Then to the north east at about 75 degrees is this fuzzy ball. At first I thought it was bright star obscured behind a rushing wisp of cloud, but it didn't change - unbelievable. That thing must look awesome away from all the light pollution. What a strange sight. No wonder everyone is going on about it being a harbinger of DOOM. Weirdest comet I've ever seen and right in time for Samhane. It looks very similar to the Orion nebula and just as big. Really makes you wonder... |

Yup. It looks so much like computer generated image, and we all know it's not. And I'm pretty sure this thing does have a tail. Might be even a long one. It's just that we cannot see it from this angle...
Also a several kilometers long train on a straight track - when viewed from the tracks in the front (far away) - looks like a small dot.
