For the Northern hemisphere, this 2.5 magnitude comet is probably the brightest, most well placed comet since Hale-Bopp in 1997! Comet McNaught earlier this year was very low on the horizon just after sunset for those in the Northern hemisphere.

It's funny, I was just looking last night about bright comets which are expected in the future. And the prospects were bleak until the past few hours with comet Holmes-

The link shows in the next 5 years through 2012, there was only two comets with borderline naked eye visibility forecast, that was comet LONEOS visible right now low on the horizon peaking this month at magnitude 4, and comet Tuttle this December peaking at magnitude 6. Those were the only two bright comets forecast in the next 5 years until today, with the sudden brightening of comet Holmes!

Outstanding! Who will be the first resident of GLP to spot the surprising comet Holmes in the sky? I'm going to try to find it tonight!

Should be a sight to see

This is going to be a cinch to spot. Right now where I am there are some tall trees which are blocking Perseus. But around midnight wherever you are in the Northern hemispere Perseus and comet Holmes will be almost directly overhead. Looks like a near full Moon tonight so that's not helping things. Make sure you look from an area that is shaded from the moonlight. I'll try again later.

I wonder if that is what I saw. I looked up at about 5 PM and saw a bright spot in the sky. No other stars or planets were visible but this was pretty big and bright. I thought it might be a satellite but I think I saw a comet!

As new science proves, comets are not the once thought of "ice balls" in space.

The recent probes sent to comets in our system show that instead of just Water Icy Rock material they are made of Ionized Matter. No H20

The tail we see coming off the comet as it makes its orbit is Ionized particles of matter reacting with the Suns Solar Wind. This is some of the new research in the field of Electro-Cosmology.

Well how's this for something trippy. Comet 17P/Holmes intersected Earth's orbital path on January 1st 2000!

It is now moving away from us just beyond the orbit of Uranus.

Type 17P/Holmes and hit the 'Show Orbit' button.

There is a remote possibility that the object is not comet Holmes but in fact something that has coincidently outburst directly in the line of sight with comet Holmes.

It is trippy- er than all that... consider this

In his last vid (on u tube at LA) Michael Tsarion said that we can expect some radical changes (for the worst) starting on or around the first week in November...he said that a cosmic wave was coming from the center of the galaxy and it would magnify the influence of Pluto (life or death)watch this here: [link to www.youtube.com]

then today, someone posted the info about this full moon (Oct 26th) being a special alignment that allow for consciousness to be enhanced... like an open window...for both consciousness and Pluto...being push upon us with this cosmic wave.

then this comet explodes...maybe it was hit by the wave that is on its way here... from the center of the galaxy...if it can do that to a comet the size of a planet ... what will it do to us?

None of that is correct. 17P/Holmes never intersects Earth's orbit and it's currently just beyond the orbit of Mars, not Uranus. (It orbits between the orbit of Mars and the orbit of Jupiter,while not directly crossing either).

Also, the odds of something else coincidentally appearing/brightening in the same spot in the sky would be well over a million to one.

When can this thing be seen in Arizona? Can I see it with a naked eye?

I remember Halley's comet has same story when it moved away from us last time.
