There are supermassive blackholes at the center of every galaxy.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 281483

It is THEORIZED that there are supermassive blackholes at the center of every galaxy.

There. Fixed it for ya!

scream

Black holes, dark energy, dark matter, etc. ad nauseam are THEORETICAL entities, used to prop up the increasingly frail and tottering Standard Model.

It's quite likely that gravity is not weak, but that the force of gravity is interdimensional, therefore gravitational effects can be inter dimensional, this state of affairs is not well understood at the present time.

Gravity may be a huge force, but spread out inter dimensionally...

Isn't this how Atlantis reputedly went under?

That is: humans trying to play God only to find out they were biting off more than they could chew.

A risk evaluation placed the particle accelerators danger between 11% and 25%. [link to www.risk-evaluation-forum.org]

People argue that whilst there is no proof of Hawking Radiation, cosmic rays hit the earth at much higher speeds and we are still here, but they fail to remember that those kind of collisions are much less precise and the cosmic rays are hitting stationary particles. With the LHC, two particles are going to be moved towards each other, and it will be very precise. They are two totally different collisions. Strangelets can also have a negative charge.

...I think death by black hole has to be second only to being vaporized by a nuke, so even the worst case scenario is pretty cool!

The biggest DANGER from this, is if any 'anti-matter' is released long enough to collide with 'matter..' then it may be a huge.. Ooops!! Ouch!! time.

i wonder if there is anything the scientific community could do that's new, and deeply theoretical, that the fearful arent going to scream "potential doom!!!"....it's going to collide 2 protons at a time......less mass than a single atom of hydrogen.....you're in far more jeopardy when you cross a street, take a shower, or light a disposable lighter(they make them in CHINA!!!)....dont be Luddites, this can open real understanding of subatomic mechanics....this type of thinking would have suppressed the harnessing of fire(after all, it could spark a forest fire!!!), electricity, and steam....quit being a whitetailed deer, spending your life looking for things to run away from

actually.. instead of the Zeta's & other Aliens being big headed & aloof about what they know about particles.. it would be nice if they perhaps scribbled down a list of 'Do's and Don'ts' concerning these give it a whirl experiments wouldn't it? Save a bit of time, maybe Switzerland too. I'm all for these exciting experiments, but I do hope they know what they're doing..

Wonder what the explanation will be when Lake Geneva and the city simply disappear some afternoon while this thing is running? Just a tiny 'Pop" and the whole thing is sucked into a lack hole and if they survive they come out where? Oh, right, no one knows. No one can even guess with any bit of logic or reason.

Let's hope that they decay fast as planned. But what if they accidentally create a larger black hole and it does NOT deteriorate as planned? Then it's goodbye Geneva and much of the surrounding countryside I would imagine.

Cute. And what did this little bit of mad scientist toy cost us? Funny the bit about producing black holes a mile under the earth in Geneva was not in the glossy brochures printed up to justify the enormous investment. Nope. I didn't think so...

I wonder how much matter a small black hole could or would suck into itself before it would collapse?

More or less than the country of Switzerland, I wonder???

Re: ALERT! World’s Largest Supercollider Could Destroy the Universe
The way i see it is we have to experiment to learn and move forward. The chances of something bad happening is very low, so it's a risk we take. When we dropped the first hydrogen bomb in the ocean there was a chance of it causing a chain reaction with the hydrogen in the water but did it? There was a small chance and the entire planet would be gone but we took the chance and created probably what will end up killing us all. I guess what i'm getting at is that we have always taken chances so that we can learn and so far it's worked out. So i'm not gonna be counting the days down like it's the end of time. Plus with the idea about demons and all i'll stick to the more widely accepted date of 2012 for all that.

Re: ALERT! World’s Largest Supercollider Could Destroy the Universe
Sry to say but this... scientists have always been messing with the universe. they know what particals are. they know that there is a super massive black hole in every galaxy. for years they watch the middle of our and all around galaxys and learn about the smbh ( super massive black hole ). they dont think they know. if u watch science channels or search the internet you will see how they do it. they mess around with particles in space.. and that is messing with the universe. They know what will happen if something goes wrong with the LHC or watever. it wont destroy the galaxy. it wont even make a black hole. that would require a rip in space and time and how would you do that? its just like an exploding nuclear bomb. it wont create a rip in space and time. light hits us hard and fast.. do we feel it? no. you may feel the heat but its not the light. and the fast moving particles will clash together but will we feel it? no. the particles are realy small. maybe it will create a heatwave around the world? that would be about it. it will cause an explosion. but it wont be big. it would look like a fire starting in mid air. then exploding. that is how it would make it look like the big bang. All the time they create atomic energy to power citys by creating explosions in a chamber with heat hotter than that of the sun. and that only lasts a couple of seconds. and does that create a bh? no. so what could atom smashing lasting only couple of seconds make a bh? nothing. you would need an explosion powerfull as a supernova from a red giant or black or white dwarf to create a black hole. and apperantly the exploding of heat hotter than a star doesnt even do that.

It's indeed a possibility CERN can create a small black hole (which would destroy the earth).

It isn't likely though, but bigger particle accelerators really should be built somewhere in deep space instead.

Jenny Randles has documented in her book "Time Storms" reports from people living near a particle accelerator of anomalous events such as glowing lights, strange noises, energy fields, gravity-defying incidents and distortion in the flow of time and space.

People have reported electrical interference and car failure when experiments were taking place.

I've been thinking would a connection of some kind be able to form between two or more of these super colliders running at the same time?

Heard about this one the other day from a friend.

Re: ALERT! World’s Largest Supercollider Could Destroy the Universe
My questions is if we are speeding up particles near or close to the speed of light and their mass grows exponentially this produces heavy gravititon waves that distort space time in which can result in a black hole, with would become self sustaining if the magnetic field that shields the project fails would devour the earth and the mass of our solar system. possibly using the gravity waves and focusing them can result in time travel and other unexplained phenomena. Is the real purpose of this collider to produce larger amounts of antimatter? to be used for weapons, energy sources, time travel, new types of propulsion? I believe that misused this device could devastate our planet.

Maybe we have reached a critical saturation point in our existence of this planet using up all the raw materials and fossil fuels this project is to send back in time scientists to conduct research change key events and shape our future based on our past and present. Perhaps maybe the reason we exist is a paradox in its self that because our starting point was not at the beginning of Earth but sometime after and we showed up in Earths history without evolving through natural selection is why monkeys are still monkeys and humans are still humans. Exotic pandemics and genetic manipulation are to control our population expansion as well as our DNA pool. To correct DNA anomalies we have introduced with the use of pesticides/ radiation/ electro magnetic fields from power lines/ and any other genetic altering methods through trail and error in our existence within the past and present. Maybe all the alien sightings were not aliens but future explorations of the past and present to try to compensate for our mistakes maybe a new set of rules have been determined not to alter the timeline directly but indirectly to study points in time that are key in correcting genetic disorders/ major catastrophes/ and to speed up technology. Moores Law states that the number of transistors more than double on a single chip every year meaning that technology more than doubles every year. Well since the year 2000 it has quadrupled with the introduction of parallel processing using multi cores on a single chip where now your high end home desktop computer is processing calculations at near the speed of the human brain. Our future is a dark highway at night unclear if we do not break free from this labor and sales based mentality and start to broaden our minds toward science and devote our attention to science is our salvation then we are doomed to fight and misuse technology for war and personal gain which we may destroy ourselves when we could have become a great race with great accomplishments.
