Has anyone ever heard of a mirror like this ?
It is a mirror that supposedly lets you see your face not in reverse like most mirrors do but actually as another person would see you if you were them looking at you. I cant remember what this kind of mirror was called. I remembering hearing about it a long time ago on my local news.

Can anyone remember the name of the mirror.

It switches your face into the right position lol

Hi Star,

I think you are looking for 'True Mirror' or maybe 'Non Reversing Mirror'

Hope this helps!

No you are all wrong. A "true" mirror is one where the outter appearance is congruent with the inner essence of a person's soul. An evil soul = grotesque visage!

The amazing thing about GLP is that you never know what you're going to find when you come here...

The mirror of which you speak was called the "True Face" mirror, or the "Real Image" mirror. They were marketed unsucessfully in the early 90's.

While they sold for hundreds of dollars, you can experience the same effect using two mirrors held at an angle. It's too early (and I'm too caffiene-poor) to explain any better, you just need to grab two nice-sized mirrors and spend some time with them.

The image that you see is what other folks see, and it can be quite disconcerting. I've seen people break down into tears as their image of themselves is totally torn away.

Anyways, that's what I know...might I ask why YOU are asking about this? Just curious...

Place two plane mirrors vertically at right angles to each other. Do this simply by taping the back corner while holding one mirror vertically resting against a table edge and the other sitting on the table at the edge. See photo below.
Look into the seam of the mirrors. Adjust the mirrors so you see a single non-duplicated image of your face. This is a "true" image.
Notice anything different? Yep! Our faces are NOT really symmetrical. This is what others see you as. You actually see the right side of your face on your left and your left on your right - unlike a plane mirror. Now, have some fun with it.

Raise you right hand to touch your right ear. It will amaze you at the psychological effect this has. The image actually raises the true right arm, not the mirror image "left" arm we are used to. Explanation? Each side is a reflection of a reflection. The left side is a reflection of the reflection from the right side. Cool, huh? The kids will love this. Another neat effect of this mirror is that you don't have to be in front of it. Place it at eye level and observe as you walk past it. You can ALWAYS see your image. It has about 160o vision area.

Want more fun? Have a student, preferably a girl, apply some make-up while using this true mirror. She simply can't! Heck, I can't even touch my left ear!
